I agree. I've said for months that I thought UNC could beat the charges. Good for them
We should invite them to replace one of the Big 12 teams we picked up. They cheat like an SEC team. Maybe even better than an SEC team.

WAY too liberal for the SEC. They would be appalled that we would even consider them stooping down for us. Frick 'em. Their cheating game is deluxe, but there are a lot of fanbases that are better fits

Ironically, it's the scope of the scandal at UNC that got them off vs the punishment meted out to Syracuse. When it's only 6 athletes involved you can't really make the argument that it was a benefit available to all students. When it's 3100 athletes you can make that defense.

Every university has some sort of easy A class that I'm sure athletes matriculate to when you need a grade boost.

Actually Universities have these classes for all students, not just Jocks.

I don't know if MSU still has it, but 4,000 years back when I was there, one of the popular courses on campus was Horseback riding. They actually had beginning and advanced horseback riding classes. I was a book nerd and didn't take them, but lots of students did - was well known to be a sure "A", as long as you didn't kill your horse or yourself.

We are happy with the verdict. Our minor academic fraud under Houston Nutt and a loaner car to Tunsil (7 game penalty) will also get short shrift.

The real scam is that they didn't lose accreditation over it.

Agree. However, the accrediting body can still weigh in. Though, they probably won't.

More than 1500 athletes took the "no-class, just turn in a paper written by your tutor" course of instruction in Black Studies. Total of 3100 students, mostly girlfriends of the athletes.

Thank goodness for girlfriends.

Their defense was to fight tooth and nail against NCAA overreach. That was smart. Ole Miss cooperated. It's like telling a cop to search your vehicle, knowing there's weed inside. Versus telling them that they're not allowed and then getting a lawyer to prove the cops didn't have probable cause. Thus, it's never found.

Smart schools already know this.

Ole Miss is gonna get hammered.

Well, we know where you get your info

OlMisses' biggest mistake was their lack of unity in the effort to thwart the investigation. Too many loose lipped cowboys trying to look like big-shots in their small towns.

NCAA drug UNC through the mud for 7+ years over an easy class that athletes and fraternity members took advantage of. OH shock. I'm sure no other university has a similar class. No evidence this class was established by the athletic department for the benefit of its athletes,

The bottom line is that UNC has been on de facto probation for 7 years. Roy has had to win national championships without top ten talent that U.K. and Duke have been getting. Recruiting in footballl has also been challenging.

Free at last, Free at last, thank God Almightty........

I really don't know the particulars, other than the press-conference stuff people posted on here -- which had the AD and Chancellor talking about cooperating with the NCAA.

I don't live in Mississippi, nor do I really care about the particulars. Only so much as it applies to the way the NCAA operates as it pertains to all schools.

fake classes

People keep saying this phrase, but the class wasn't fake. It was a real class that athletes and students attended. The problem is that the class had no oversight, attendance wasn't being recorded, they only wrote like 1 paper for the whole semester, and everyone enrolled in that class pretty much got an "A" or "B" at the very least.

The NCAA is sickening. You could make that chart about a lot more schools than just Syracuse. They basically walked because of their power in basketball but more importantly the ACC commissioner John Swofford has been running interference for them since the beginning. Swofford is a UNC guy. There was never a chance Swofford was going to let them get hammered.

So it took the NCAA 7 years to determine they have no say in academic fraud ?
Couldn’t that have been determined a lot sooner ? What about the ACT fraud under
Houston Nutt ? Do they still care about that ? ACT fraud got academically deficient
players into college, UNC’s fraud got them actual degrees . Both sound equally bad to me. Hypocrisy at it’s best.

There should have been some penalties. No athlete will ever become ineligible again.
