Good luck with an angry and embarrassed NCAA, OlMiss.

North Carolina's defense was just crazy enough to work, and they pulled it off. Kudos to the Heels

Angry and embarrassed? This was their desired outcome.

UNC is a huge name for them. If Ole Miss was in the same situation as UNC and gave the same defense, Ole Miss would lose and lose hard.

Well, when you put it that way

This... I think the Senator over at GTP summed up my thoughts pretty well though as a Dawg fan...

It took ’em three and a half years to punt. How stupid does Michael Adams’ overreaction to the Harrick scandal look now? (It looked stupid at the time, but, still.)

At least now they can get back to what’s important, which is keeping the labor base cheap.

That sets a bad precedent.
It does get tricky and a lot harder to prove when it comes to academics though.
Every university has some sort of easy A class that I'm sure athletes matriculate to when you need a grade boost.

How do you police all these academic center for student athletes all universities have in place now specifically for athletes.

UNC's Defense was ideal really.

A benefit offered to everyone isn't impermissible for the NCAA.

If someone gave $10,000 to every football player.. but also to every student.. it would be perfectly legal.

If you wanted to be a bit more clever about it.. try structuring this way:

Every person who attends a football practice gets $50. Every student is eligible to attend practice but seating is limited and is on a first come first serve basis. Every football player attends practice.. so they can receive the money.. and since it is a benefit available to ALL students, it's legal, until they pass a bylaw preventing it.

Technically they did punish UNC, dragging this out so long did probably hurt some recruiting and peripheral type things. At a minimum some things should have been vacated going back to time of infractions.

I imagine any negative impact on recruiting was mitigated by winning a basketball championship earlier this year

The basketball team sure was, I mean they only played for the last two titles and won this year's. That's some really severe punishment they were getting.

This is accurate. The real scam is that they didn't lose accreditation over it.

They weren't just turning out athletes with worthless pieces of paper.

Always knew they weren't gonna do something to UNC. I have no idea how they live such a charmed existence.

On the bright side at least we can now admit the term "Student Athlete" is meaningless.

Looking from the outside in, it always seems like the ncaa chokes, but understanding what its like when youre the one being investigated and how stupid everyone is at forming their own uneducated opinion, I am not surprised UNC's penalty is lighter than you guys think it should be.

You can't spell ncaa without UNC. I called this a year ago.

Nothing should've happened since everyone benefited from the fake classes and not just student athletes.

I agree. I've said for months that I thought UNC could beat the charges. Good for them
