i think arkansas will have no issues having a successful offense under beilema... they won't put oregon like numbers, but they'll have a dynamic running game and adequate passing game. The issue will be can they find and develop the athletes necessary to compete on defense?...

This sums it up perfectly IMO

People keep saying we won't be able to run his type of offense in the SEC but that won't be an issue, the real question is the defense...like it always is with us. We have proven to be great as both a running team and passing team on offense within the last decade. But the times we have won double digit games are when we had an above average defense, which we haven't had the past few years

In 4 years, Arkansas will be winning 8 or 9 games per season depending if they win their bowl game. 8-4 regular seasons.

Arkansas needs to figure out what they want to be. Do they want to be the grind it out, pound the rock team that BB loves or do they want to be the offensive team that they've been in the past. The key for Arky is recruiting. They have the means to get there but they lack a pool of talented players in their state. They will have to significantly increase the pipeline out of state which I've already seen BB do. He just needs to do it bigger and better. I can see them competing again in the near future.

6th or 7th in the west. I don't believe they have the resources or coach to be anything more than that.

Completely agree with all of this. Bielema won't fail here because he won't be able to run his offense. It's going to come solely down to defense. If he can build a defense like he had at Wisconsin then he will be here for awhile.

Bert won't have a problem with the instate talent pool for his offense, the positions the state constantly produces at a high level is OLine, Dline, RB, and TE.

The problem for Arkansas in the past has been attracting good LBs with size, we have done well with the undersized speedy LBs and speedy hard hitting safeties, the fad of teams moving to the spread will ease the need of recruiting the big LBs and Big safeties meaning our undersized speedy guys will be more than adequate against those offenses.

If teams continue to go towards the spread, the defenses will be adjusted to stop the spread, see:Big12. Berts power offense would actually have an advantage over these smaller faster defenses.

Threads like these are amusing and show the unbelievably short attention span of most people.

Remember:

Arkansas went to the SEC championship game and was winning late in the 3rd (before the Fishover) with HOUSTON NUTT as head coach. Houston fricking Nutt.

Let that sink in for a second.

I think Arkansas is better than Bert, or at least deserves better. I seriously don't think that guy is good news.

This is definitely a good point. I'm drawn back to that second quarter drive against Auburn that ate up like 9 minutes. That's the type of drive I expect to see against these spread teams more often as we get more of his guys in the system. Run the clock, put points on the board and keep those offenses from being able to get in to a rhythm.

AFter 7 pages I'm sure this topic has already gone to shite but...

Arkansas just needs one badass quarterback like an Eli or Peyton, or Cam or Murray, a guy that makes everyone else on the field better, whether he's pro-style or scrambly, doesn't matter, build the offense around him when you find him.

And hope 2/3 of LSU/Bama/Auburn has a down year, get lucky against the other, and have a cakewalk cross-division schedule, and Arky can win the national championship.

With a new coach...

Seriously, a 4-8 (2-6) record in 2012, a 3-9 (0-8) record in 2013, and another abysmal record coming in 2014... The Arkansas fanbase will not have the patience to wait on a great season that will never happen under Bret Bielema. Even in 2015, how far up can they go with "Old Man Football?" Auburn is on the rise, Alabama has been consistently great, LSU has been consistently a top 25 team, Texas A&M's recruiting is outstanding, Ole Miss is on the rise, and Mississippi State stays about where they are now...

Arkansas will have a long wait until they are able to compete for the SEC West.

You're being incredibly short sighted. The only games we weren't competitive in were Bama and Auburn. To say we won't beat those teams based off of the results of one season is ludicrous.
