I personally watched Alverez's last team destroy Auburn to end the 2005 season. we were one of the hottest teams in the country... beat eventual SEC champs on the road... only SEC loss was in OT in baton rouge.
so a team that bert helped build and a coach that hand picked bert to succeed him did that? very nice

in reality, the fact it took him five years from his starting point at Wisconsin should be a red flag.
perhaps, but not really once you look at the details.
bert improved that 2005 teams record of 10-3, too 12–1 with the talent left over in 2006. beating a DMac led arkansas team in the Cap 1 bowl.
bert then went 9-4 in 2007 and 7-6 in 2008 after having to replace a lot of the starters. His record then went back up after that with his players getting experience

i hear ya, and I agree... a 8/9 or win team that, if they catch a couple breaks and have the leadership necessary, could win the division and possibly the SEC. I do think that's realistic for a program with ark's resources.
looking back at those wisconsin teams, if you dropped them in the SEC West, I think maybe one of those teams wins the division (2006) and none with the SEC outright... just speaks to the level of competition.

so you're saying a veteran coach and a staff hand picked by bobby petrino couldn't muster more than 2 conference wins with all the talent left by petrino?
then most of that talent left after that season and bert couldn't do better? wow. that's earth shattering stuff there

so after 5 years he was still using Alvarez recruits?
Yes. And most of the coaching staff, trainer, support staff, ect.

Wait so was the talent left by Petrino good or bad? I'm confused now. Please leave the goal posts intact.

Middle of the SEC if they continue the current rebuilding effort. I think as a whole they are a more attractive program than Missouri and they will begin to become the premier program in the region.

There was a significant talent drop off from the '12 to '13 teams as the last of the guys that helped us get to the Sugar and Cotton Bowls left. He wouldn't have gone 3-9 because we would be in year six of his system but he definitely would have struggled this year and we wouldn't have remotely come close to a 10 win season.

4 years is too far out to project. Next year I see them competing for a bowl bid.

i don't see them overtaking mizzou as long as pinkel is there... pinkel has basically already established what arkansas wants... a consistent 8 to 9 win seasons with the occasional great season (see last year's top 5 finish).
both programs will have similar hurdles to overcome with regards to recruiting... arkansas has the larger fanbase and more money put into football... but Mizzou will have a consistently easier schedule, being that they are in the east not the west.

We start playing Missouri yearly this season so it will be interesting to see how the two teams progress over the next four years.

Arkansas will not be in the SEC in 4 years. They suck too bad. Bert will never get it done there doing more than eating pork.
