I'm willing to bet he's been in touch with UT people.

The positive vibes from people on this hire are so, so reminiscent of what people said when we hired Muschamp.

They will be playing for 2nd place just like all the other east teams besides Tennessee. VOLS will be owning the division for the next 2-3 years.

Oh please, this is just another step pointing to the East becoming what it was in the 90s- Florida's domain where other teams can compete if Florida has an off year.

Bama brings in the players not Smart. They will have top 5 classes unless JL Smith is coaching. Smart will be like will Muschamp and Derek Mason. Great defenses and bad offenses. That all Kirby knows

Lol, I have a coach who is a QB away from an SEC championship and national championship lol . Good luck.

Wait McElwain is coaching at Auburn, because you've basically described Florida this year- a suspended QB from being the National title favorite.

Every Saban disciple on defense sucks at being a HC. Save for Dantonio. UGA is in for nauseating ride. I can't wait. They will be rejoicing when Kirby is fired and wishing for the years of Mark Richt.

This might be true and it might not, but Kirby sure knows how to make Gators miserable and punny.

That is Nick Saban, not Kirby who's never had to design his own defense, roster, etc.

Keep telling yourself that tonight.

Each time you tell yourself that CKS learned nothing from being mentored by Saban keep track and count.

Keep counting (like sheep- see what I'm doing here) until you are able to sleep tonight.

I'm sure he learned a lot. About defenses. That doesn't help evaluating kids on the OL, WR or QB, managing academic risks, discipline issues, boosters, staff issues etc. These guys learned a lot too: Steele, Dooley, Sunseri, Muschamp, etc. They all sucked as HCs and DCs.

I'd have thought a program like UGA would have went for a proven and successful HC if they were going to fire Richt. Hiring Smart is a 50/50 proposition. It may work out, but if it doesn't...Look out! (Ask UF how that feels.)

I think the main difference between Agent Boom and Smart is personality. CWM is abrasive whereas CKS is generally very likable.

That personality will help him manage people and situations. It's almost like they're alter egos - opposites. That's probably the reason for the attraction and why Smart wants to bring Boom with him.

Are you not somewhat surprised/worried that a program of UGA's stature is hiring an unproven assistant coach? I would have thought they would go after a proven HC. I was dismayed when AU hired Gus after only being a HC for one year at a small school. He at least showed that he could handle the responsibilities. (Jury is still out whether he can handle the SEC, but I am satisfied that he will right the ship.)

Smart wants to keep Pruitt. It is McGarity that wants Pruit gone and McGarity needs to be fired.

Oh, look, another Alabama thread where they talk up a former coach/assistant/etc to make themselves look good. How did the Steele homerun hire work out?

Georgia always hires that way. Only time we ever went after a current head coach was when we hired Jim Donnan.
