UAB was wanting to borrow $60 million to fund this thing when they have no fan base. The projection from building the stadium would be twice as many tickets sales as they get now (with a very generous estimate).

Bham4Tide is actually considering a move . . . and a name change.
Always hated it.

This. As long as tax dollars aren't used, who cares.
Fat chance.
They're only able to meet the D1 minimum attendance requirements because the city buys something like 5,000 season tickets.
If their foundation can fund and build a stadium, good for them but I'd put the chances at somewhere less than 0 without funding from Birmingham.

I mean it's fine I guess, but if I'm going to live in a big place I want to live in an actual big place. If not, I want to live in Tuscaloosa.

Birmingham is going to build a dome. 55,000 seats is the plan.
UAB may be out of luck trying to build their own stadium for sure now.

The last stadium proposal include guaranteed funding from private donors, along with sky box commitments among other things and the Board of Trustees refused to even hear the proposal
If UAB can hang on to their current coach and he build a program that's competing for C-USA titles with fan support, what reason is there for them not to have a stadium?

But they aren't doing that. And they were winning a good number of games in the late 90's and early 2000's and still had no fan support. If they do start winning and people start going then they can start the conversation.

Programs like Troy, South Alabama, Georgia Southern, etc must really hate welfare programs like UAB and Georgia State.
Important for the states' educational reputations though. Those programs have a lot more national prominence (if you want to call it that), than Troy or Georgia Southern.

Not going to happen. That guy is moving up the ladder faster than Speedy Gonzalas. The UAB program is a stepping stone program right now, they cannot and will not pay big bucks for a coach.
What reason? How about watching a game with only 1/3 of the seats filled each week. It will happen. I know.

UAB's best hope is the Dome.
Georgia State is about to luck into a similar situation with Turner Field and the area surrounding it. The University System of Georgia would laugh their asses off if Georgia State brought a proposal to borrow $100M to build a stadium.

good to know because it seemed like both of those were solid reasons if true

Sure, but this is not an academic discussion.

Even with all that it STILL included borrowing $60 mil and the current UAB president does not support the stadium

This is such a ridiculous conversation.
Again, let UAB go do their own thing. If they can raise enough money to build a stadium have at it. If not, well, that is the way the world works.

They aren't. I read his biography "The Last Coach" and one other I can't remember the name of.
