A $70 million brand new stadium on a constrained budget for a fanbase that averages 15k per game? Yes, total no-brainer
Yea but Alabama is evil and shite.

UA has been supporting UAB athletics for quite some time so if they are willingly blocking efforts to build them a stadium, it's because they don't want to squander any more UA resources to do it. Supporting and fully funding UAB's entire athletic department has been a black hole for a long time. They should learn to work within a reasonable budget or start giving up shite; not adding more to the debt.

Good, if they can raise funds from UAB supporters to build a stadium have at it.

I mean, those are pretty legit reasons, not sure why you need more.

Don't know how this is possible unless the BOT approves.

Finally. Finally straw should have been when UAT prevented them from hiring Jimbo Fisher.
Posted on 10/28/14 at 11:47 am to FourThreeForty
Didn't he tell a player that he wouldn't amount to anything and there was a reason Alabama didn't recruit him?

I don't see why they aren't teaming up with the city on the dome project. If UAB committed to anchor the dome it would have been built years ago it seems.
That's always made sense to me also. From what I've heard over the past few months, Birmingham is adamant that the Dome will happen within the next
few years.
I think the biggest concern is that it still wouldn't technically be an on campus stadium

Jimbo Fisher tho

That is such garbage claiming UAT has supported UAB athletics. UAB boosters had raised the money to pay jimbos salary without help and UAT blocked it.

I think UAB should be given full autonimy. They can use their own athletic revenues to support their athletic department. They should totally break away from the UA system athletically and have total control over their monies and what they do with them.
Of course they will have to fund themselves too, but I'm sure that would be no big deal. After all, they want mean big brother UA out of their lives, so I'm sure they don't want our money either.

Yes we are usually terrible at football
Yes our fanbase is one of the worst in the country
No we don't make any money
Yes we would go broke without UA
Yes Bear Bryant played a huge part in building UAB to begin with
But if you don't meet our $70 million demand, you are the a-hole.
What a bunch of unbelievably entitled babies

This. As long as tax dollars aren't used, who cares.
But that's the thing. UAB doesn't have the financial support from boosters to pull it off.

That given the choice almost everyone would choose to live in Birmingham over Tuscaloosa?

I wouldn't. I fully intend to stay in Atlanta the rest of my life but if I was moving back I'd totally move to Tuscaloosa > Birmingham. No question.

I have two degrees from UAB, and I have been an active non-supporter of an on-campus FOOTBALL stadium. Stupid idea, supported only by a very vocal minority of UAB fans. Maybe they have the money to throw away - good for them. I don't want be a part of it.

I mean, I'd live in Auburn over Birmingham, but I don't think most people would.
Birmingham has solid stuff going on, even if it isn't my preference.

Programs like Troy, South Alabama, Georgia Southern, etc must really hate welfare programs like UAB and Georgia State.
