SEC football has become an amazing farce.

Does anyone know how much she was paid?

Yes.

Glad to see the woman made this right before it got too far down the road.

And if were a UF fan or alum, I would be proud my school handled this the way they did.

If the woman made this up, she should be prosecuted.

If the woman reported the "incident" while emotional and under the influence and after reflecting on it while calm and sober, realized she made a terrible decision and tried to rectify it, then the situation gets murkier in regards to criminal charges for her.

If Harris's lawyer is as good as I think he is, I'm betting he will advise Harris to let any prosecution of her go, unless she fully fabricated their encounter.

He probably will, but it isn't his call in the end.

The accusation was made in 2012. FSU claims they didn't know about until January of 2013, their Title IX office didn't learn about it until November of 2013. I am sure some outsiders won't see much difference in the end result, but UF handled this about as well as possible.

Unless they can 100% prove that she made it up, I doubt there will be anything brought against her.

I think they did too and I think FSU and the TPD could have handled it better, but the way in which each situation was reported, the inability of the alleged victim in the FSU case to provide identifying information for more than month and the evasiveness/spottiness of the alleged victim despite a relatively clean tox screen, made the situations much different and the response in Tallahassee much more difficult to navigate.

Something about suspending a player from school when he has merely been accused of a crime and there is limited proof he actually committed the crime really doesn't sit well with me.

And just as I thought, everyone assumes she was paid off. "Because that's what happens in sports." Yeah, tell that to Mike Tyson.

So, no major damage to his reputation, huh?

Important to note the charge was withdrawn. She can come forward at a future date. Certainly not over by any means. The police report that has yet to be released should give some insight.

I agree, but as a society we've got to find a way to punish this. Rape allegations are only comparable to the "racist" tag as far as stigmatizing. It's a totally tilted situation from the beginning, so unless we're going to even the playing field at the outset (conceal accused identity, reveal accuser identity, etc.), we've got to make it unattractive on the back end.

The way the university reacted is disgusting and embarrassing. Machen's statement was embarrassing. Treon shouldn't have been suspended from campus. That is a ridiculous punishment for simply being accused of a crime.

It is a blurry area. Criminal due process and even a thorough investigation take time. The University has an obligation to act reasonably to protect its students and provide a safe environment. Letting a student accused of a violent crime remain on campus is a hard call. Taking steps to limit the accused's contact with the larger student body for a reasonable amount of time to conduct a thorough investigation is reasonable imo.

"We have no tolerance for sexual assault on our campus," UF President Bernie Machen said in the statement. "The university is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for every member of the UF community. We must strive to protect all of our students from sexual harassment and assault, and do everything in our power to promote a safe learning environment."

It's not a blurry area. There wasn't enough evidence to charge him with a crime. There wasn't enough evidence to suspend him from the university. It happened anyways. It's ridiculous and not fair to any male that is a student anywhere.
