As your personal preference?
It is my personal preference, for sure. But you had 5 teams make the basketball tourney in 2017. You had 8 in baseball, and could have had arguably 10. Baseball should not be considered a nice sport to SEC schools overall.

It's pretty much the definition of a niche sport.

One could say the same for you in regards to hockey and lacrosse
But those aren't widely considered the #3 pro sport in America

Everything is relative but I'd say (at least in the SEC) the 5 college sports that aren't "niche" are:
Football, Mens & Women's Basketball, Baseball & softball.
It's still America and baseball is our pasttime -
I think softball is dumb as hell and there is no parity but it's growing popularity.
Id say baseball was a "niche sport" 25 years and softball wasn't even a thing - but in 2017 baseball is hardly a niche sport considering every SEC game is availble to watch nowadays.
And Women's basketball is pretty shitty too but gotta throw the women a bone in today's climate of PC culutre.

#3 vs #4/5. Wow. Big difference.

OK. They still have similarities in terms of college popularity. Very regional.
I know who Benintendi and Judge are but had no idea that they played in college, for example.

Baseball and softball is something for the white kids to play and their parents to watch.

Baseball is on the same level as women's field hockey. Whoever wins the CWS will get as much prestige as whoever wins the NAIA shot put national championship
Trying way too hard

Women's softball shits on women's basketball imo. Women's basketball is one of the most unwatchable games imaginable for me, and I love basketball. And talk about shite for parity.

Stupid comment but what would that make basketball?
Just because they don't show highlights on shitty arse Sportscenter, doesn't make college baseball a niche sport. Or because Alabama isn't good at it.
Just because something isn't as important overall as football - doesn't make it niche or shitty.
Baseball has a HUGE regional following.

Why is "niche" or regional viewed as bad?
Saying something isn't that popular outside of a small audience isn't the same as saying it sucks.

quote:Good point. Baseball may be considered a niche sport nationally, but not in the SEC. All you have to look at is the money spent by SEC schools on their baseball stadiums in the last 10 years as proof. As an example, Kentucky, a program that has only been to the NCAA postseason a handful of times, is spending nearly $50 million on a new baseball stadium. Baseball is big in the SEC.

Anything outside of men's basketball and football is a niche sport

College basketball and football are nationally relevant
I don't think any other college sports are
I also don't understand why its such a big deal for college baseball fans to demand that others validate their sport. I love Hockey but really don't see the need to argue with other non-hockey fans about its importance. (jjust a general running theme over the past few weeks of off-season)

Swimming. Over 30% of our olympic medals every 4 years... and in its down time, killer of 10 americans per day.

FYI most people in this country don't care about college football either

Agreed.
10 years ago, the fact that you couldn't see niche sports on tv was a reason that a sport being niche was bad. Now you can see every championship.
Now, we can watch every game leading up to the CWS and the CWS. So the only relevance is how much a ticket may cost if you want to see a tournament game or a championship game.
