The Heisman stopped being about who SHOULD win long ago, if it ever was. It's about who WILL win.

It should not be a Lifetime Achievement Award (which is why Ron Dayne was such a weak winner) and that's the only way AJ is in the picture. HOWEVER, it should also include defensive players, factor in more than just yards and points, and be about the player's performance, not his team's.

Since the award is a joke, I like Alabama players being considered whether they deserve it or not. If this were truly about the best player in college football, CJ Mosely would be a better choice than AJ, Evans would be a better choice than Johnny Hancock, and there's probably a player we know little to nothing about on a 5-5 team that deserves it the most.

Funny thing is...they are statistically better than last year's offensive line.

JFF and Winston are the frontrunners, but AJ would be a worthy recipient as well. The award is for the most "outstanding" player, not the one with the best stats. AJ may go down as one of the winningest and most decorated players in CFB. And he plays in a balanced offense that actually runs the ball. If he got to throw the ball 35 times a game like some of these other guys his stats would be alot higher as well. Not to mention the fact that he is usually on the bench the last quarter, quarter and a half in most Bama games because of blowout wins. He could easily have an additional 500-800 yards passing and half dozen or more TD's if Bama wanted to pad his stats. Fact.

Luckily there is a stat to compensate for the fact that not every QB gets to sling the ball 50 times a game. It's called Yards per attempt:

AJ is at 8.912 YPA and Manziel is at 10.52

Big time players make big time plays in big time games.

No one has done it more than AJ. Ever. Not Johnny Football. Not Cam Newton. Not Tim Tebow. They're better athletes, but AJ has won more big games for his team than those guys have. He is one of the greatest college football quarterbacks of all time.

If I had this problem and two titles with a third on the line with AJ being surrounded by talent. I would just post a big smile and the crystal trophies.

Oooh. Wow. 1 1/2 yards better. What a difference, huh? And that stat alone doesn't tell the full story because how many of those throws are simple quick reads the receivers turn into big plays?

And threw 2 picks.

AJ's not going to win it and that's fine. I'm hoping he gets invited to NY though

80% of college qbs are more flashy than AJ. Everybody has a mislead idea that a QB isn't good unless they are flashy (media's fault). AJ doesn't have to be flashy because our style of play doesn't require it. Our receivers run solid routes, our RBs pick up blitzes and our O-line makes beautiful pockets. He still has to be very smart and make reads and he doesn't turn the ball over. He also calls plays in big games and runs a brilliant play action. Anyone that thinks AJ is overrated and that any QB would do what he does is not intelligent.

McCarron is surrounded by all of that NFL talent though.

If he can, will you be okay with him being a Heisman contender?

Has McCarron had to make one difficult throw in his entire career?

Once again AJ is 5-2 in big time games. That is good, but Cam was 3-0. And Tebow was around 5-2 as well. And every freakin game JFF plays is big time for him
