Funny how you guys didn't find that viewpoint myopic when you were blasting Alabama for firing Shula only a season removed from a 10 win season.

Meh. If this is true then Richt needs to be fired immediately for underachievement. if Auburn at No.15 can win a NC and play for another one in 4 years and UGA cant sniff the arse end of one since the early 80's...and UGA is No.3 on this list...

Then either list is shite...or Mark Richt is.

Tennessee's problems are a bit more nebulous and harder to pinpoint.

I really think it's simple. We had a horrible AD that made a hire that bit him in the face. Then turned around and hired a complete joke of a coach. The combination of these two things caused great instability and caused a huge number of players to leave the program.

Name the programs with more advantages and a comparable road to winning a NC.

There are none definitively better. You can make an argument for Southern Cal, tOSU, and FSU being comparable but they have advantages over each of those programs.

If it was so easy to win there, they'd have had more than 2 coaches with success over the past 100 years. Just saying. I think they're overrated considering how many D1 programs are within Texas that compete for recruits. Jobs like LSU are easier to win at, IMO.

Well, when you put it that way, it does seem pretty simple.

Though, to be fair, Fulmer was starting to get uneven results with terrible seasons mixed in with mediocre and good ones toward the end. Kiffin actually did respectably, given the circumstances. We all know now that he wasn't HC material, but that doesn't change the fact that he managed to semi-salvage what could have been a complete disaster of a season. So the question I have is whether Fulmer was slipping personally or whether other factors were involved?

Well, when I. Was in school A&M was top dog... Since scholarship limits the two main schools in Texas are pretty even. Now add the SEC to the equation, and the facilities and such. A&M is. Becoming the Oregon of the South.

Texas a&m can't be the Oregon of the south. You're sponsored by Adidas

Exactly. We're THE adidas school. They've done a good job with A&M gear, surprisingly.

Tennessee is the Nebraska of the south, both have a rich football history and both have been shoved aside over the past two decades due to changing demographics and shifts in regional power. The difference between the two is that Tennessee is still located in a football hotbed and can recover, whereas I seriously wonder whether or not Nebraska can ever return to what they once were.

That's kinda the point. Just like Nike has gone all in on Oregon, A&M is currently Adidas' darling. They currently pay us more per year than they do any other school that uses them, including Notre Dame and Michigan.

And we're destroying Stoops and OU, as well. All they did recently was post an 11-2 season and embarrass Bama in a BCS bowl.

We are ranked in the top 5 going into this season and are poised to make the playoff. A&M will be lucky to make a bowl game

I don't know about two whole decades. From 1994-2001 were some of our best times in history, and we won the east as recently as 07. Our decline has been less gradual than Nebraska.

Actually I didn't think that at all. Obviously I can't speak for everyone but it was clearly apparent Shula was not the answer in the long term given the circumstances. Most reasonable people would probably say that.

It's not much different than Auburn's situation. Sometimes, though, you end up hiring the wrong replacement. Tennessee is currently suffering through the consequences of their mistakes. Sometimes the idea is better in theory, and largely depends on who is available at the time. Auburn and Alabama both got lucky with their hires.

Ah, dammit, I'd forgotten about Cutcliffe. Which is strange, because with a couple obvious exceptions, there's not a coach in CFB I admire more than Cutcliffe. Yeah, I can totally buy that being a huge factor in the recent decline. Frankly, I think y'all should have gotten him instead of Butch. Nothing against Butch, but Cutcliffe is an amazing game coach. Whether he's a good enough recruiter to bring UT's program back, I couldn't say, so maybe that's why he wasn't at the top of the list.

Notre dame already bailed to under armor, and lot of people think Michigan is going to opt out of their contract with Nike after the 2016 season because of the sweatshop thing. We're switching to Nike after this season. Y'all might be the only major program to use Adidas soon.
