"Within the next five years Florida's athletic department will be 60 or 70 million dollars a year bigger than FSU's."

Not angry in the least ... I called him a douchebag because he is a SoCal fan on this SEC board being a douchebag.
Why are you defending him? I'm confused.

ChexMix:
Looks pretty good with the exception of Oregon. Only thing Oregon has is the financial backing of Nike. No fertile recruiting grounds, no history of winning championships, nothing.
ETA Texas AM shouldnt be in the top 15.
I agree with this..

Oh ... I see now. You had to log off of your LSU handle and log back in using your SoCal username.
Gotcha. How many alters do you actually have btw?

That was a surprisingly interesting and well-researched article. We all know that there's been a migration of people to the Southeast, but this stat, in particular, caught my eye:
quote:
In 1980 Michigan had 9.3 million people and Florida had 9.7 million people. Last year Florida had 19.6 million people and Michigan had 9.9 million people. So over the last 35 years the state of Florida's recruiting base has increased by more people than lived in the entire state of Michigan in 1980. Meanwhile Michigan's population has only increased by 600,000.

That should do some serious damage to FSU then.

Clay Travis is a clown. I do remember some Aubs saying that their job was top 5 in the country. Good times.

So I am reading along, and then notice a distinctly non-objective view point in Georgia's blurb. Scroll back up to see who wrote the article-- of course, Clay Travis.
EVERYONE in the state of Georgia wants to play for UGA? Believe me, I WISH that were true, but I feel as though UGA has to convince its top instaters more than any other school in the SEC that it would be nice to stay in the state. In addition to that, the administration is willing to attach an anvil to the back bumper of the program in the form of regulations no other SEC school follows and financial constraints relative to other SEC schools. But yes, UGA is a good job. It is is a great town, in a great conference with recruiting hotbeds nearby, and historically, UGA has not had a quick trigger finger.

Theoretically, if an ACC Network was created (similar to the SEC Network), I wonder how big that gap would remain. Probably still sizable...
And it has been talked about:

The gap is already pretty big (somewhere between $35-40 million in revenue), it is just going to get quite a bit bigger. An ACC Network would help them, but it would still be a sizable gap.

As much as I hate to say it, I agree with UGA's ranking too.
The problem for Richt/Georgia is that every season we lose out on top instate recruits who could make for a championship team and many of those do get, end up not panning out for a variety of reasons. I will put it this way: the product on the field is not nearly as talented as our recruiting rankings might lead you to believe. Also yea, Georgia typically has top 10 recruiting classes but our toughest rivals have top 5 recruiting and those extra 4 and 5 star players do make a difference.
