Using this year as an example...
prior to the SEC championship the SEC would have had four teams qualified... If Bama had lost to Georgia there would have only been three SEC teams qualified.. same thing would have happened last year with LSU...
Bama would have been in and LSU, as Western division champions, would have been left out... Even though they beat Bama head to head

LSU was ranked 11th
Entering the SEC championship game ....after the game they fell to 16th

Which is a good reason for some type of functional divisions every year. You want to see the "best" teams play at some point in the regular season or SEC CCG.

Six, eight, or twelve playoff teams creates plenty of opportunity for deserving teams. But the conference championship is also a meaningful accomplishment that shouldn't be shitcanned for a the playoffs.

You don't want college football to turn into college basketball where the emphasis on the playoff marginalizes the regular season. College football is really the only sport with an exceptionally valuable (must watch) regular season and that needs to be protected.

I think the SEC will decide to play it on a year by year basis. If it would help Bama get in the playoffs then we will have it that year. If they are already in or don't need that game then it will be not played that year.

probably here to stay but instead of like this year, win to get in. It more than likely will be the winner get top 4 and bye while loser has to play first round and possibly on the road

The only way we get rid of this is if the playoffs expand to the point where it isn't necessary. I makes the conference too much money to get rid of it.

There is a distinct possibility, with the new schedules and playoff structure, that two SEC teams could potentially play each other three times in a season.

As long as it's the best teams...ok. Most years one rep was really good and one had multiple losses but could win the championship with one game which I didn't like. The top 2 are ok I guess.
It's purely for money so that dilutes it a little for me. It makes no difference for the SEC as the top two teams will be in the playoff regardless.
The worst part about this 12 team shite is a loss isn't a big deal. You still have potentially 2 you can have and make the playoff.
