Scrap it. However, this will not happen due to the TV revenue it brings in. Over 20 million people tuned in to watch the last one.

Just a question, but with the playoffs will the conference championship game result in an automatic bid for the playoffs even if the champions are a 3 or 4 loss team. Kind of like the basketball tournament.

Doubtful that there will ever be a 3-4 loss SEC team that comes in second in the conference. It could probably only occur in a conference with horribly balanced divisions like the B1G. Iowa could easily have lost that many this year with their terrible offense.

Scrap it - add an additional
Sec game for every team - take away one OOC game.

Can we just move it out of Atlanta already?

I could however envision a future where the conference championship games are somehow a part of the playoff.

F that noise. So if the best two teams in the country are from the SEC, you think it makes sense to knock them out in a first round elimination game?

Great question Chad. As many have noted money will drive a lot of decisions about the SECCG.

However,…..what if we go through some scenarios that could have an impact…..

Suppose LSU has a Heisman QB and Bama has a ferocious defense, and they both have one loss and are slated to play in the SECCG. They are both assured of making the 12 team playoff,so……

Does the LSU coach decide to sit his QB and other key starters for the SECCG to have them fully healthy for the playoffs….?

The game will only mean something if a playoff spot is up for grabs.

We ignoring the bye for the top 4.

I think playing for the right to have a bye is pretty important.

shelve

It’s appeal will slip as it won’t decide a playoff berth. It’s another week of wear and tear after a long conference season when you most need rest & to be healthy for playoffs. Plus, you could have teams playing potentially 3 times in a season.

There is no "other than that". It is all that matters.

Keep it, since it's impossible to have round robin at this point.

The point of the SECCG was to break ties. In 1989 we had 3 teams tie for the SEC title (Bama, Auburn, UT) and all three claimed the title (and still do). Each team only had one conference loss:

Bama beat UT
UT beat Auburn
Auburn beat Bama

There was no way to tie break that. Even with a one game play-off you still cant tie-break it fairly. So they came up with divisions.

I don't want to see the SEC championship lose all meaning because of the play-off. Winning the hardest conference should be worth something.

You could also have a scenario where an SEC championship team (or even both teams) hold back to save wrinkles for that second time matchup in the playoffs. But they would be playing for that first round bye, so they'd probably do what it takes to ensure a win in the SEC championship.

Shelve it. The goal now is to have as many of our teams in the top 12 as possible. This can only hurt and won't help.

With the 12 team playoff it no longer makes sense, and without divisions makes even less sense. I say bye bye to the CCG, it only serves as a cash cow to an organization with plenty of money already, and possibly add injuries to two playoff teams.

What happens when you have two undefeated teams in SEC play?

Unless we do away with OOC games, you’re not going to be able to have everyone play everyone (not really feasible either way, but still).

For example, Alabama doesn’t play Texas or Ole Miss next year. Texas doesn’t play Ole Miss next year.

You could have 3-way tie with all 3 undefeated. Who wins? It’s going to be bad enough when one of those three teams doesn’t get in because Vandy lost to South Carolina or some such nonsense.

I like it, but I do see the point about whichever two teams being in the CCG are already qualified foe the playoff. I suppose the CCG would help with seeding.
