The mystery that is MSU

For the life of me, I do not understand why we continue to play road games with some of the non-conf teams we do. Ok, a home and home with BYU I can almost forgive, but once again on the road with La Tech etc. And Dan Mullen seems to love it. Perhaps La Tech because he's been recruiting some under the radar kids in the state. I don't know.
La Tech scored 620 points last year. They lost @Arkansas by 1 point. They have a good enough offense that I could see issues here if our defense does not get it together. I think we'll beat BYU this year but I wish we'd quit this road game stuff so much vs non conf teams unless they are a big name. Then losing wouldn't feel as bad.

If I gave you an honest answer then you'd just get your feelings hurt and accuse me of trolling

You don't really want to hear the answer to your question.
C'mon be honest.
C'mon be honest.

Sad but true.

Home and home with BYU is legit. Mullen has his reasons for playing road games at LaTech and it pays off in ways other than one game $.

My honest answer, we don't have the fan base and money to force our way out of these road games. Simple as that.

Things are changing in the state of MS. MsSt with Mullen are already in place with a proven system. The next 10 years of MsSt football should be one of its best 10 year runs.

what gives you the impression that you will beat BYU this year?

The scheduling talked about in the OP helps big time with this. They've only played a couple of P5 opponents OOC in the last decade. Mullen gives them 4 auto wins (should be anyway) every year then all you have to do is beat 2 SEC teams and you're bowl eligible. For a program like MSU who had been on a terrible streak before Mullen this is actually a very smart move for program building. Helps raise the perception of the program.

Its called a 2 for 1 deal. They came to starkville twice and we returned one game. We did the same with Troy and South Alabama and have one in line for Tulane in the near future.
Southern Miss played us home and home.
Who should we be scheduling instead of the teams like the ones above that I listed that are local teams.
We play a home and home with Kansas State in 2018-19 NC State in 2020-21 and Arizona in 2022-23 and Minnesota like 2026-2027
We play UL-Lafayette in the Superdome in 2019 and play Memphis at Memphis in 2021 something Ole Miss has done many times.

We led most of the game last year in Provo and should have won it OT if not for a fumble. BYU lost their starting QB and their top RB in the history of their program as well as 4 starting OL and a couple defensive guys who will get a look in the NFL.

Because the price of home rent a wins is so high it is more financially prudent to make home and home deals, especially if you can get a 2 or 3 to one arrangement.
I do wish we would find a few better opponents or at least some better destinations though, last year was better.
At the end of the day we have one OOC road game this year and 7 home games overall, until folks start digging a bit deeper it is the best available option, wish USM wanted a few more.

I think it has to do with the money. I know smaller school gets paid around 600k per game to travel. Idk about the vice versa but i think thats a reason.

There is no way paying a Louisiana Tech to come to Starkville is less bottom line than traveling to Louisiana Tech and what they pay you and your bottom line for that by comparison.

Why not take a few seconds to use google rather than seem so clueless?

At least we aren't playing UMass in Massachusetts in front of 12 people.

This was the Tommy Tuberville path to success at Ole Miss, and it worked well for him.
