Let's not pretend like Lsu 2007 was some great team. Kentucky beat them.
it wasn't, that helps validate my point. My point is Arkansas had enough raw talent in 2007 to win the SEC and as a result play for (and possibly win) the National Championship. Combine DM/FJ with year two of malzahn and who knows what could've happened.

So basically, he recruited a bunch of players for his offense, the HC and DC wouldn't let him run his offense, so he left...got it.
What an a-hole!

Ehhhhh I dunno if I'd go that far but they did really underachieve. I see your point.

yes, because the entire offense should change to suit the high school experience of 4 true freshmen, despite the heisman candidate running back on the team.

Huh?
He recruited Mitch his first spring here.
Williams and Cleveland had already flipped from Florida.
All three were buried on the depth chart, Williams had his moments, but turned the ball over too much/dropped easy passes which isn't going to get you on the field with Nutt as the HC.
He wanted to play 5 wide, even tho we didn't have but 5 WRs on the depth chart and had 3 better players lining up at RB.
He was allowed to install the Wildcat package (although he wanted to use Hillis as receiving snaps with McFadden in motion, it was Nutt's idea to put Mcfadden at QB where he played some in HS and the speedy Felix in motion), his HS trick plays, and passing plays using the formations already in the play book.

Tulsa finished 5th in the country in rushing offense in 2008 (268 ypg). You know, when Malzahn was running his Air Raid offense like you claimed. In 2007, they finished 41st. However, they still ran the ball MORE than they threw it that year. And had 1000 yd rusher.
Any more lies you'd like to spread?
ETA: Mike Leach's Air Raid offense in 2012: 600+ pass attempts, 250 rush attempts

i'm confused- he was their high school coach at the time- not what i'd normally refer to as 'recruited'.

I don't see why people are so down on Nutt.

Nutt and staff had already secured Williams and Cleveland's commitments.
Gus was hired to secure Mustain's who was looking at committing to SC at the time (He waited to long and lost his chance at ND by this time).

i know- and it's not what i'd consider recruiting. it's called taking a new job.

Real question, how would things have been different had Casey Dick not been injured at the start of the year and Mustain's could have taken a redshirt. Less drama. Probably would have sat most of his redshirt freshman year behind Dick and then played 3 full years at Arkie. Hell, Nutt might still be in Fayetteville
Are you kidding? Houston Nutt can screw up a mayo sammich. I saw the light his third year in 2000 when Tennessee had us down 35-0 at the end of the first quarter. I can't stand that mf and reading that article brought it all back. And I'm glad too. I don't EVER want to forget what he did to our program.
I thought I could get to the end of the thread before this reply but hell no...this has to be addressed. I hope I never forget.

Gus was brought in to improve play at QB, WR, and TE.
The difference between 98 and 99 and 2000 on was the disappearance of the TE in the passing game and Nutt's inability to replace Stoerner, he did recruit "the talent" in Brashears who was Mustain before there was a Mustain, but that guy flaked out mentally. The next good QB play involved moving Matt Jones from WR in the middle of games.
