Hard not to defend him after 2010 but the signs started showing the next year.

Some Arky fans in here are such bitches.

My comment had nothing to do with grammar or punctuation...just saying.

I'm still trying to figure out why a good portion of Arkansas' fanbase hates Gus Malzahn.

I don't know. wmr made reference to the Springdale - Fayetteville feud and I think it may really be more of a NW Arkansas thing. Personally, I don't hate the man and I think he'll be a good coach for Auburn.

Well no shite Gus is better than Nutt and David Lee at calling plays

90% of this board can say that. But we did have good offensive & defensive lines that year.

I enjoyed it and if the hog fans were honest the only reason they made it to Atlanta was because of Gus.

Just look at my posts regarding Nutt when he was fired from Arkansas and ended up at Ole Miss and you will see where I placed the blame. I've long stated that any success Arkansas had under Nutt was in spite of him, not because of him.

I give Gus a lot of credit for the success Arkansas had that year but I'm certain that any number of coaches put in that same situation could have done just as well and perhaps even better. However, that doesn't diminish the job Gus did even with one hand tied behind his back and undermined by Nutt and his arse Clown Posse at every turn.

Gus got most of the credit, and rightfully so, for turning Arkansas around that year and that made Nutt insanely jealous. Nutt is an insecure, petty, jealous, and pathetic example of a man and away from the cameras is nothing as he portrays himself.

However, Gus the Pius was not without fault in this situation and he worked behind the scenes to keep trouble stirred up on the hill. Based on my sources, I believe Gus was hoping to cause enough friction that Nutt would be fired, sooner rather than later, and he would be elevated as the head coach at his dream job. Obviously, that didn’t happen and Gus bolted for Tulsa leaving behind the Springdale players he used to land the OC job at Arkansas.

Gus isn’t the saint he wants people to believe either but that’s for another day. That’s why I frequently refer to him as Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart or Jim Jones. In many ways Gus is a phony as those three with a cult following.

If Gus is such a phony how would he have assembled the team of coaches that he did that includes Garner, Craig, Johnson, Jones, etc? You think that these guys think Gus is a phony?

Probably a natty. We were # 1 or 2, and DMAC gave it to us dry. I was in the stands, and clearly remember that game. Nutt screwed you guys that year.

So was I...couldn't stop DMac, Jones, Monk...they ran the trick play where they hid Fish behind the OLine on us....that was a long day. Probably cost us a shot at the Natty

Gus went to work for phonies Nutt and Chizik. What makes you think those coaches you listed aren't doing the same?

Chizik may not be a good coach, but he's a hell of a person. You equating those two tells me all I need to know about how full of shite you're being.

Decent article, but it was clearly designed to make Malzahn look good and Nutt look bad.

I mean, Nutt did win 10 games that year in a very competitive SEC West (LSU had arguably the most talented team in its history that year, and Auburn was still the old Auburn). Hell they even gave the eventual champs, Florida, a run for their money in the SEC CG.

But no, Nutt is a dumbass and Malzahn is a genius. Mustain is a victim and so it the entire state of Arkansas.

Yeah, who would turn down a chance to jump from the high-school ranks to the college ranks as an offensive coordinator? And who would want to coach in a national championship game?

Good points!

I never considered Malzahn a genius but he is a good coach.

Mustain might be more of a victim of his own choices after that season than he is a victim of it. He is still playing. Regarding the state of Arkansas being a victim...I don't think so and hopefully we've learned a lot since the days of Hootie.
