No they shouldn't. But I also think that the 2-yard rule is much to close. I say change it back to 5 yards or don't call it unless it directly affects the play. Don't call it on a lineman moseying around 3 yards past the line of scrimmage when the QB throws a 40 yard bomb.

Nm. I think college is still 5. But I still say don't call it unless it affects the play.

Not really but fine, I'll play a long. Yes, I believe that the defense has all the advantages and I believe that linemen should be able to run and block as far downfield as they want to. I think that would be great for the game. I think all the rules are made to help the defense when the game is already 11-on-11 and everyone should just cover their man. Would this be good for college football or not? Please explain.

I swear he didn't. He is talking about when it comes tot he rules I guess. Because the offense clearly has the biggest advantage of knowing where the play is going and the defenders having to react to what the offense does, therefore giving them a step ahead.

If you start letting 300 pound plus guys go downfield and set a pick on a 190 kid imagine the head injury problems we have now and what it would be like then..

My thoughts exactly.

I don't know exactly what the thought was way back when they came up w/ this rule, but even if didn't make sense back then it certainly does now.

Linemen should be able to go as far downfield as they want to on passing plays. All the rules are made to help defenses. The game is 11 vs. 11 so why does the defense need all these rules for help?

We obviously do not have any coaches or refs on this board to help explain but I dare you to try.
I got a better idea. Let's make a rule that states that the defense calls the play that the offense must run. Let the middle linebacker tell the line judge what he wants the QB to call and have him relay it to the QB. The QB MUST run that play or be charged with a 15 yd. penalty....how 'bout that?
