Linemen should be able to go as far downfield as they want to on passing plays. All the rules are made to help defenses. The game is 11 vs. 11 so why does the defense need all these rules for help?

We obviously do not have any coaches or refs on this board to help explain but I dare you to try.

Other than being able to move before the snap all the advantages go to the offense.

You can use his logic to argue that QB's should be able to make a forward pass after running past the line of scrimmage. I mean, if defenders can tackle, intercept, and cause fumbles past the line of scrimmage why shouldn't you be able to throw the ball forward?

Tried to explain to him that the offense has all the built-in advantages of already knowing where the play is going, etc. But you know how AU fans are since they got Gus..

is your friend a chick? sounds like it.

the rule against OL blocking downfield has been in effect since day one in football. itd appears that the originators of the sport saw real quick that when the DB's got killed, every play was a TD.

I can understand everyone bashing him because it's SECRant and he deserves it . But let's educate him on why it wouldn't be good for the game.

1. The DBs would be getting murdered by linemen blindsiding them

2. The LBers would no longer be able to key in on run or pass by reading the linemen

What else y'all got?

Lol no I'm a Bammer and he is an AU fan. I brought up the fact that the NCAA is looking to change the 3-yard rule again and that's what started all of this.

Your friend is an idiot quite frankly.

So when does the offense ever get any help?
pretty much every rule change in the last decade?

The offense had the huge advantage of knowing exactly what the play is. The restrictions on how the offensive players move is the only reason there is even a game of football.

I asked Reddit first...

LINK /

Seems like Reddit knows more about football than the SECRant.. WTF Guys!?! Y'all are better than this shite. All these flame-fests some of you have with each other may have dumbed-down your football IQ or at least your communication skills. I was for sure I would get more intelligent responses (along with bashing) on here than I did on Reddit. But maybe the topic is just so dumb that there aren't any good responses available..

The primary reason lineman aren't allowed to run downfield on pass plays is that it would be absolutely impossible for the defense to keep track of who was eligible and who wasn't.
