What people are missing, the committee has already said that a conference champion is one part of the formula. It is not a requirement though. The committe is trying to get the four most deserving teams.....SOS, record, common opponents, etc. are all taken into consideration.

FSU has played the weakest schedule of the top 4 teams. They have been less than impressive in just about every one of those games. They have found a way to win each of them, but they don't deserve to be ranked higher that any of the top three, IMO.
Interesting that of all fans, an Auburn fan, would take this approach given what happened last season.

Are you saying Auburn should have been ranked somewhere around No. 4 and undeserving of playing for the NC (hell, they weren't even undefeated)?

If your answer is no, you are a hypocrite and we have nothing further to discuss.

Last year there was no doubt who the top two teams in the nation were. This year there is no doubt who the top two teams are. The difference is.........this year there is a four team tournament. Sorry you can't decipher the differences in your equation.

So you are saying their rankings, to date, have been a sham? (because I have seen very little fuming about their rankings so far this season)

Everyone is in agreement Alabama, Oregon, and sadly FSU deserve spots.

You can make a legitimate case for Ohio State, Baylor, or TCU.

The committee's opinion as a whole will stand. Just because it doesn't match your own doesn't mean it's incorrect or crooked.

From Day 1.

Fuming will be an understatement around 1 p.m. Sunday.

Will you sing the same song if No. 3 TCU, after winning 55-3, drops two spots and out of the playoffs?

I still don't understand why people claim "incorrect" or "crooked" when a business does what's good for that business?

Really? FSU has not lost, regardless of how they have won, they HAVE NOT LOST. That means Bama, Oregon, and FSU should all be locks, that is 3 teams, not 2.

Yep, it's just about providing a better show not meting out social justice. I'm glad I wont have to make that fourth choice. Baylor, Texas Christian and OSU are all viable choices. We really could roll out about eight teams this year who could fight for it all and have a chance.

@DavidHaleESPN: vs. teams with at least 8 wins: Ohio State 4-0 FSU 3-0 Baylor 3-0 Oregon 4-1 Bama 4-1 TCU 3-1

Auburn played 6, not including a&m and arky who are decent teams as well. Other than the Pac-12 the other conferences are a joke.

Doesn't matter that fla state HAS NOT LOST. They still ARE NOT a top 4 team. Top 6, maybe. There is more to determining the top teams in the country other than record.

That's everything wrong with College Football right there. You and all the experts want to judge teams off the field instead of letting them determine it on it. If FSU wins the Natty this year, what then? Oh well they got lucky?

Agree, but that committee has a lot of influence for the B1G. I will be very surprised if OSU isn't in the top 4.

"Off the field"? No, if the Criminoles were judged off the field, they wouldn't be allowed on it. It's just a matter of time for them anyway. They've been lucky all year, so they've probably used up most of their good fortune by now, not to mention, they're about to be harshly tested, as you well should know.

And evidently, I'm not the only one who understands that strength of conference, strength of schedule, OOC games, margins of victory carry as much weight as the W-L record, hence fla state's #4 ranking & Bama's #1 ranking. Perhaps you remember the Tide? ... Pretty positive the playoff committee & anyone else who is remotely familiar with football, even at the Pop Warner level, realizes that many factors, not just wins/losses determine rankings, but lemme guess, you're one who thinks Harvard should have a spot in the playoffs, amirite?

Just hope you aren't too upset when fla state gets beat the first round. You & your buddy sounded like y'all were about ready to pop a vein in an earlier thread over the pounding y'all took from Bama last night; or as you stated, over your loss due to your boys lack of competitiveness & coach's allowing them to quit in the fourth quarter - not at all that MO just got spanked or anything by the significantly superior team that will most probably win the "Natty" this year. ... Bless your heart, you sound delusional & a bit distraught. Maybe this whole football thing is just too much for you.

Absolutely. I have said it from the beginning. Total sham, unless controversy was their goal. Fickle reasoning is not a process, quite the opposite.

With 4 spots and 5 conference champions the butt hurt from the conference champ that gets left out will be huge. Who care. Under the old BCS none of these teams would even be in the discussion. It'd be Alabama vs. FSU in the title game. Fanbases are so f'ing entitled. They won't stop till it's a 32 team playoff and 8-4 teams are in it and the regular season means absolute jack shite.

I never thought of it like that. But that really is true, then again that's easy to say when I don't have a dog in the fight.

Yea, they have a loss against a bad team, unlike Bama. Oh wait...

If TCU stays in:

1) Alabama
2) Oregon
3) TCU
4) Florida State

If Ohio State/Baylor move in:

1) Oregon
2) Alabama
3) Florida State
4) Baylor/Ohio State

The committee is going to try and make sure these semifinals are packed.
