It looks like the inaugural year of the playoff committee selection system is going to be more controversial than any of the previous BCS rankings.

The entire thing is a shitshow, and I'd rather they had left the BCS crap in place until someone figured out a better "playoff" system. Four teams does not a "playoff" make.
I like the idea of leaving the BCS rankings in place, and then taking the top 4.
But extending the playoff too much further puts a burden on these teams--it's always been hard to get through the season without injuries. This extra playoff game now will only make that worse, and adding another one or two rounds only exacerbates it. I think you'd have to shorten the regular season.

Let's all take a minute to imagine the controversy had Mississippi State NOT lost to Ole Miss.

Ohio State, Baylor, and TCU should just be thankful they are even int he conversaion.
In the BCS system they'd all be complete non-factors.
All the debate would be Alabama, Oregon, FSU and none of those other clearly inferior teams would even have a chance.
One of them will get blessed to be included now.

I know, I just found it interesting.

I was thinking that same thing tonight.

I just say that because Ohio State and Baylor both lost to a team that has less than 8 wins.

They screwed themselves by putting TCU 3rd. No matter what they do tomorrow, two teams will have legit gripes about being left out.

I like the four team playoff and I really don't want to expand but it does put us all in the awkward and distasteful position of having to pull for Bama to reestablish the SEC hegemony. The winner of the SEECG is a lock with one loss or two. Keeping it that way is in Saban's tiny but capable hands.

The committee set itself up for unnecessary controversy when they put one loss TCU ahead of unbeaten FSU. IMO, even based on schedule, Florida State never deserved to be that low on the poll. Now the committee faces real scrutiny because they might drop TCU 2-3 spots after a dominating victory.

If they put in tOSU, it should be to knock out FSU. The Big 12 is a much better conference than the ACC or Big 10.

FSU will not be knocked out no matter what. They will move to 3 and eith OSU or Baylor goes 4. I predict OSU.
1. Bama
2. Oregon
3. FSU
4. OSU
1. Bama
2. Oregon
3. FSU
4. OSU

That's exactly what I think should happen. The season would be too long with 8 teams in the playoffs, making the risk of injury too great, so I think the season should be cut by 2 OOC games & go back to a 10 game regular season. Having 8 teams in the playoffs with all conference winners included is the fairest most objective way to determine the national champion, if that is really the intent. I doubt it though. People are too used to all of the $$$$ now, so that's not going to happen. I think there is a way to incorporate bowls into a true playoff system, but as was pointed out, the regular season would have to be cut, and I imagine universities would be unwilling to do that ... so here we are, worse than the BCS, imo.

How do you explain leaving out a one loss team who only has one loss to a top 6 team?
ETA: And they barely lost.

This playoff will go to 8 teams eventually, or they could consider 6 teams and the top 2 seeds will get a bye.

They aren't the true champion of the Big 12 if you follow the Big 12 bylaws. Baylor is the true Big 12 champion due to their heads up.
They shouldn't have lost then.

Baylor may have beaten them head to head, but TCU's loss to Baylor looks better than Baylor's loss to West Virginia...
