You shouldn't be allowed to fly.

It is unique, the only other 1 word state that does it is Virginia (UVA), although they don't seem to embrace it the way UGA does. Our url is uga.edu
well our url is ufl.edu
no idea why.

You're not the sharpest tool in the shed, are you? The "A" doesn't stand for "Athens."

As pioneers in the online education system, the University of Foenix got it first.
So is there an official link from Georgia that states the origination of adding the A? I've asked some of my UG alumni friends & none of them can give an official answer as I've been genuinely curious for a while.

I always figured it was more because Georgia is abbreviated as GA. Hence U of GA = UGA. Not so much about Athens.

A for azzholes...I thought everyone knew that? UGA used to never be seen until the 1980s in all seriousness. I like the abbr three letter logo and it keeps me from typing more crap.

Woah, just tried www.florida.edu and went to Florida Internation University. Those Panthers are sneaky.

It's the postal code.
If you look at the 0:15 mark of this video , you will see it in the newspaper as UGa., similar to how UVA used to be written as UVa. (and sometimes still is) There was clearly a transition to a more common use of all caps at some point.
It doesn't have anything to do with Athens.

www.uf.edu redirects to www.ufl.edu
Why not just make uf.edu the main site?

Actually....that's a pretty darn good question!
Anybody?
I have no idea. It's always been there...maybe to differentiate from UA? (Auburn) Just a guess. I have no idea!

The only other UGs (in US) are University of Great Falls (in Montana) and University of Guam, which doesn't really count. I'm sure neither of these are older than Georgia. University of Geneva is the only international UG I can think of that has international recognition

Unlike Arkansas who is never in the running for a National Championship.

I actually don't think this offseason is as bad as some of the others I've been here for
