I do think A&M should run with this though. It just flows off the tongue.

I call them UG, because that's what their fans usually say after a loss that takes them out of the running for the national championship, again and again and again and again...

The biggest piece to this puzzle is when did they start using UGA. Pre 1963, the postal code for Georgia was Ga. Big G little a. That would be weird to call the university UGA if they were going by the postal code because of the little a. I'm leaning towards the A standing for Athens, because Georgia is a very old state and there are a shitload of universities there, so they needed the extra distinction.

Why are you looking at hats in the first place. This is the SEC and filled with attractive coeds. Most on the Rant would be looking about a foot south or so from the hat area.

Are you pronouncing it "tam-YUKES" or "ta-MUCKS"?

It is unique, the only other 1 word state that does it is Virginia (UVA), although they don't seem to embrace it the way UGA does. Our url is uga.edu

It definitely has nothing to do with Athens, the GA stands for "Georgia", not sure why it never was UG though.

Although it would make sense for us, Arkansas, Alaska, and Arizona to do it differently. There's too many UAs

Alabama- UAL
Alaska- UAK
Arkansas- UAR
Arizona- UAZ

Athens has nothing to do with it man.

University of Georgia
U of GA
UGA

I'm not sure how that was difficult for you. Not every abbreviation is going to follow the same ruling.

Re-read the op and see what format he was referring to. Note: It isn't the same one you used and called him names for.
