Maybe my interpretation of the young man's message differs from most. So with that said, perhaps the young man understood at the time he committed that grey shirting was a possibility in the event certain things happen with recruiting?

I know first hand (and I'm sure many of you do too) that recruiters lay it out where one "fits" in the grand scheme of things and if the domino's fall and certain way, changes will be coming.

Hearing that Auburn has sold him on Samford is not God's will.

Ok, I'm an idiot. Explain to us why paying for one semester at a junior college on the front end in return for getting a full year of graduate school, all expenses paid, on the back end is a bad deal. Please, oh please, tell us you were a business or finance major.

It sucks when it happens that late in the process but it's the seedy side of recruiting. Hopefully the kid finds a cushy landing spot.

They don't have to pay for anything. They don't enroll in any college until they arrive at Bama.

Auburn values integrity over the win at all costs attitude Saban and bammer employ. I have never seen this situation happen at Auburn

This is about as true as a statement from Hilary Clinton.

We need to scoop this kid, last time we did it ended up being an all-SEC player now in the NFL.

I actually felt very bad for Philon when i seen that video. But comparing this kid to him does not make that much sense to me. I guess the visual of Philon on NSD just stuck with me along with the story of how he really needed to get out of a bad neighborhood he lived in. I a, very glad Philon is a success.

Auburn is lacking in credibility in its stone throwing here much like it's missing in accreditation in its business administration program at the University itself. Both are equally humorous however

Its crazy how the Bamers will defend Saban and put this on this kid in high school, but not the grown arse man.

Some Bama fans, you know who are smart, have admitted this to be a dickish move. Even if you tell a kid when he committed a year ago, or whatever, that he could possibly get a grey shirt, depending on who else signs, you still don't wait a week before NSD to let him know that that will in fact be the case.

Hell at UGA when KS came over, we did the same thing to a WR who has been committed to us. I guess I see where KS got this from, the master Saban. At least we let the cards be shown a few weeks ago and not at the very last minute.

EDIT: To make it clear, it was a dick move by UGA too. But I'm of the stance that for these kids who don't get paid at all, it isn't a business for them, even though it is for the coaches, so they shouldn't be treated as such.

That's clearly not what happened here.

So clarify then. Thought this came out last week with basically no time for OV. Also it was stated/rumored that Saban wouldn't let him take OV anywhere else (I guess Bama commit standard). I also saw it stated that this kid took several unofficial visits to Bama and his only OV was to Bama. Sounds like he had no backup plant at all, showing how dirty of a tactic it truly is, as he probably assumed Bama would hold true to its word of a scholarship.

He's known for a few weeks. The "rule" about not taking other visits was really just for his first two years, aka guys that committed under Shula. We have multiple commits take OVs every year. Everyone should have a back up plan. He has no one to blame but himself for that. I'm positive he was told about the greyshirt possibility well before his commitment. Bama will also still give him a scholarship. He hasn't lost that. He just has to wait until January. I don't see what the big deal is.

They can enroll at a JC if they want to. They certainly don't have to. But whether they do or not, the grayshirt offer is giving them a full year of graduate school...a better deal. Yet when the idiots are asked to explain why this is a bad deal, all we get are crickets.

Clearly we didn't want him going to our rivals at Wake Forest. Some times you gotta be sneaky like that.

But that doesn't fit the narrative that Saban invented and trademarked the concept of grayshirting.
