Two wrongs don't make a right, but this kid is stupid if he didn't realize that a grey shirt was a possibility.

and that's why people think you're a piece of shite
Asking a kid to wait ONE year to enroll makes him a piece of shite? It's not like he's yanking his scholly. John Parker Wilson grey shirted under Shula. Who gives a shite? He's still getting a full ride scholarship to the best football program in America, when his next best offer is from South Alabama. Kid can kick rocks as far as I'm concerned.

I still don't understand why kids like him commit to Alabama. It's not like Alabama hides what they do. Every year they ask a couple of their lower rated players to greyshirt once the final numbers start to add up. And then if they do stick around and accept the greyshirt they get processed a few years later. You have to face the reality that if your next best offers besides Alabama are Sun Belt schools, the odds of you ever playing a down for Alabama are extremely low. There is no way in hell I would encourage my son to play for Alabama unless he was a 4 star or 5 star with a clear path up the depth chart.
Good for him for turning down the greyshirt and accepting the reality that Alabama does not want him. Go to a school where you are wanted. It worked out great for that Arkansas DT Darius Philon who is now in the NFL. Why bury yourself in a depth chart just to say you play for Alabama? Seems like common sense to me.

I mean Saban probably doesn't want the kid sitting behind Davis, Wilson, and Juarez.
This is a great sign, Nicky already is looking for more spots.

If the kid was told this was a possibility them I have no problem with it. If he was lead to believe he was 100% full take and then all of a sudden asked to GS then that is poor.

I don't really blame the kid but I always wondered this as well. Looking at his offer list it would have been much better if he would of just committed to Wake Forest imo. If he was being realistic with himself then he would realize he was bottom of the list. Hope everything works out for the kid.

1. You would take Nick Saban as head coach at Auburn in a heartbeat.
2. You wouldn't start this thread if he was the coach at Auburn and did the same thing.
3. You're so angry that it's comical.

Yea I get why the kids love all the hype and fame that comes from being an Alabama commit while they are still in high school, but at some point why wouldn't a parent or football coach sit down and talk with these kids about the track record that Saban has when it comes to lightly recruited athletes? Why would you want to be #25 on Alabama's list of priorities when you could be a top priority at another power 5 school. The NFL does not care that you played for Alabama. They care that you played somewhere and if you are buried on Bama's depth chart and end up at a community college in a few years, yours odds of getting drafted are virtually zero.

I can't say I blame the kid. Not fair to offer a kid, only to pull his offer late in the game when a higher skilled kid wants a spot.
I'd say peace, as well.
Good luck to him.

He's ranked 945th in the country according to 247 Sports and his other offers came from South Alabama and Wake Forest. I'm surprised Saban offered him a scholarship in the first place.
Yea, talk about being a little fish in a big pond. Why on earth do that to yourself when you have better options?

That's not how greyshirts work. They are asked to defer their enrollment for one semester before being awarded a full ride football scholarship.
There's nothing sketchy about it.

Saban's job is to win and he does it better than Auburn's coach. I could not care less if you like him.
