LOL at these people saying that would not be called targeting today. It was a legal play in 2012 that is fact. But if that would have happened this year, and the refs saw it, he would have been ejected. That is the definition of targeting.

Not in todays rules. 100% targeting, easy call. Look up the uk block against Lsu and Ohio st vs wisconsin. If helmets touch after a blindside block you gone.
how do you blindside block a guy in the front?

Are you serious? Look at the video I posted of the Ohio St block that was called targeting. Then look up the Uk vs lsu one. That would be an easy targeting call with the new rules

But it is called and upheld everytime. Targeting has become any hard hit on an opponent that isnt expecting it, for the most part

Not really. Just when helmet to helmet happens, imo. They throw a flag on most vicious hits, but I have seen them overturn those that didn't have any head contact.

True. But was the rule meant to be helmet contact after the initial hit was actually made by the shoulder? Because that is what it has become. I thought is is supposed to be leading with the helmet

In their defense, you could say that about a good number of things.

Who knows. That part of it is kind of unclear, you're right. In most cases, they probably err on the targeting side.

I just don't see how it was dirty. The db picked the ball off, Dial squares up and throws his shoulder directly into the Georgia player.

just because something was called targeting doesn't mean it actually should have been called targeting. an lsu fan should know about bad calls

Dial would have been ejected if he had done that in 2014.

But it wasn't a penalty in 2012, so he legally lit that fool up.

97% of the old bone jarring hits they show on TV would be targeting these days.

What about the other 3 blocks just like it I referenced? That Quinton Dial play is being called targeting with the quickness

I hate how we're involved with every freak play and controversial call. And usually getting the wrong end of the call. (Ref. Vandy 2013 targeting ejections)
