Southern Miss has always been pretty respectable. We open our football season with them this year. To draw a parallel, I wouldnt mind seeing Western Kentucky jump from the Sunbelt to AAC.

Western Kentucky is in the Conference USA with Southern Miss not the Sunbelt.

To answer the OP's question - Doesn't really have a direct effect on either OM or State, but it is good for athletics as a whole in the state of Mississippi. USM has had some up and down basketball seasons over the past few years (29-7 in 2013-2014, 8-21 this year), and it would be interesting if the Golden Eagles would trend upwards or downwards in a tougher conference. Regardless of what happens, best of luck to USM and to State in the upcoming sports seasons.

We play southern miss in baseball, basketball, etc... We don't play them in football because they won't play us without us agreeing to also play at Southern Miss. State is willing to do a 1-1 with them (like they are with Troy, South Alabama, etc...) while we are not.

What do we have to gain by playing them? If we beat them, who gives a frick? If we lose to them, that's bad. I'd rather play Florida State and lose than play Southern Miss and win. We can at least get some good recruits with the former.
And this is just gold coming from a team that fled from Big Brother.

Damnit you're right. I forgot they'd moved up from Sunbelt. Living in the past.

southern miss is not that small. and it attracts a lot of new Orleans athletes. playing ole miss would be a big plus for them in recruiting. I can see ole miss' reluctance.
This too. No matter what, it only benefits Southern. I don't think us playing them helps out our recruiting whatsoever.

You clearly haven't been to both of them.

As I said, I'd rather play an awesome Florida team than a piece of shite team on our own home turf.

Keep justifying it
Some schools do both
Some schools do both

You guys play at UTEP, Rice, UNT, etc...?

We schedule them and marquee OOC games. We do both unlike OM

I think it's great for them. They need this to happen terribly bad.
Posted on 3/12/16 at 6:24 pm to WestCoastAg
So you play AT those schools. As in away games for you guys. Because Southern won't play us unless we agree to go there as well
