A story like Doyle’s shows just how far journalism has fallen in this country. He completely ignores 30+ years of history in the name of the last 3 months of troubled waters.

Since 1992, Texas has had just:
1 athletic director (he started in 1981)
2 Football coaches
2 basketball coaches
2 baseball coaches

Since 1998, we have had the same football, basketball and baseball coaches along with the same athletic director. That’s a track record of stability that no other school in America can come close to matching, especially those with a brand as strong as ours. It also means when the power shift finally happens, it’s going to be enormous, it’s going to be painful and in a 24/7 sports world, it’s going to be very public and ugly.

Look back at the end of the Gerry diNardo or Nick Saban eras at LSU, how about Fran/Mike Price/Mike Shula at Bama or Tuberville/Chizik at Auburn? Loved the AD at Georgia getting a DWI while his side piece is making sure he’s satisfied driving down the road? I bet that left several marks in Athens. Do we even need to talk about Tennessee?

Florida had been a model of stability, but the transition from Spurrier to Zook and Zook to Meyer was interesting, but the transition from Meyer to Muschamp has been downright awful. Aaron Hernandez? Wow.

And since the rivalry has been mentioned, I would be remiss if I didn’t get a laugh out of the Arkansas and A&M programs. From Nolan Richardson, John Pelpherey and Bobby Petrino…wow…just…wow. Arkansas has a 15+mill buyout for 4 years with a coach who went 3-8 last year. HAHA! Smile, Piggies, SMILE!!!

A&M? From Wally Groff to Billy Byrne to Eric Hymen, have you had three ADs in a row so disliked by the administration? Is Fran still sending out newsletters? A&M fired Mike Sherman while in the driveway of a recruit, I bet that made for an uncomfortable conversation.

Call us arrogant all you want, but all of you would have killed for the 16 years of peace we had where we saw tremendous success both on and off the field and went from a $36mill athletic department to $170mill.
