Didn't mean for that to be directed at you, you seem like you want to have a legitimate discussion.

Unfortunately the topic just brings out the trolls.

The last two years, A&M had mmore national, state and local spotlight because of Manziel. Moving forward, as long as the SEC matters as much as it matters now... what has more national implications? Iowa State vs tu... or A&M vs Auburn? Kansas vs tu or A&M vs LSU?

Texas will always run that state. I hate Texas. Can't stand them, but I'm also not stupid.

You're trying to compare a program that just barely hits 700 wins all time against a program that is about to hit 900 all time wins. aTm will never pass Texas in national relevance or spotlight.

Ask high school players what the "it" program is in the state of Texas right now.

Hint: it isn't Texas.

Right now yes. Texas is a joke. They completely showed their arse when they thought they could buy Saban. Now they're stuck in a dump of a conference while Sumlin recruits circles around them.

Texas is big brother
Texas A&M is little brother

That is just the way it is. Texas A&M has not won a national championship in over 50 years and had to make up a couple of national championships last year to feel more relevant. Texas A&M has not won one of the big four bowls (sugar, rose, orange, fiesta) bowl in over 50 years too.

Until Texas A&M does these things they are the Baylor (lots of hype and good years with RG3) or the Ole Miss (cotton bowl champs) of the SEC until they can prove they are not.

A&M had some rough years with Fran and Sherman, but before that we were conference championship title contenders on almost a yearly basis.

Texas is big enough for two major programs. I really don't care about how well Texas does, as long as we continue to improve. We can co-exist.

Don't get misled by the series record. For the first 20+ years, the game was always played in Austin or San Antonio. Plus the WWII years and 50s and 60s were tough on A&M and Texas racked up a ton of Ws in the series during those years.

Since the era of modern College Football (1972-present) and when A&M opened up allowing women and not requiring Corps membership, A&M is 19-20 vs Texas, with 8 Conference championships.

All that said, Texas will always be a major player in football. As stated above, they are a CFB blue blood. But there can be more than 1 dominant program in state - see UF/FSU/Mia, Aub/Bama

not too long ago when Bama had its coaching/cheating issues Auburn was in the middle of a rennaissance of sorts with tubby.

Auburn unquestionably had the better facilities / better stadium / better record.

People in the state were asking if Auburn had taken over Bama....

FIFY

It's rather comical that people think they can just draw a straight line from the past to project the future, as if that's how the world works.

Folks, the lesson of History is that History isn't Destiny. UTx may re-take the state, but it will have virtually nothing to do w/ the series record against A&M, or any other victories before color TV.

Hardly a little brother. A&M's football history is less than Texas' but A&M has always been a major player in CFB.

As a university, there is nothing "little" about it:
Opened: 1876
Total Enrollment: 58,809
College Station Campus: 53,000
Undergraduates: 44,839
Graduate and Professional: 13,000
Rank: Among nation’s five largest
universities
Endowment: Ranks 4th among U.S. public universities and 10th overall with an endowment of
more than $5 billion
Texas A&M is the flagship of the Texas A&M University System – one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, educating 131,000 students through a statewide network of 11 universities, seven agencies and two service units

Texas A&M Athletics has won a total of 17 team national championships. 12 are NCAA titles

Texas A&M has won a total of 161 team conference and tournament championships. 96 titles were won during play in the Southwest Conference (93 men's/3 women's) while 58 were won in Big 12 Conference play (19 men's/39 women's). Texas A&M has won 7 titles in the Southeastern Conference (2 men's/5 women's)

For the record, I am fine with texas thinking they are still top dog in the state. More power to 'em. That hubris is a large reason why we were able to separate from them as a conference mate and join the SEC, and that attitude if it continues will only allow us to buttress our improving situation.

Michigan calls Michigan State "little brother," too, and (unfortunately for this UM fan) it doesn't mean a damn thing for current and future perception.

Born and raised in Austin.

You have NO idea what you're talking about.

People here do not give a frick about football unless they are winning 10+ games every season, perception has already sprinted in the complete opposite direction. You're much more likely to see someone rocking an A&M shirt almost anywhere in Texas right now.

Only people outside of Texas think things haven't drastically changed in the state.

That is great and all but we are talking football here.

Sorry, I'm not impressed with winning the southwest conference 20 years ago. That conference was a joke and was pathetic. I would be more impressed with winning a big 12 championships or step it up and win a SEC championship.

That's all a result of the conference move and Manziel, both of which have happened in the last two years, like I said.

I doubt people will be rocking A&M gear in Austin if you guys go 6-6 and UT goes 10-2. I'm not saying that will happen, but this perceived changing of the guard is entirely dependent on your recent success, not 100+ years of dominance which is the case with UT.

It is more like 50 years of dominance, followed by 50 years of splitting the series.
