Also, just because he wasn't the designated recruiter does not mean having Chavis as a DC didn't sway players to come to LSU at all positions.

LSU recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson on hires of Kevin Steele and Ed Orgeron:

"I'm doing backflips today. Even the most excited LSU fans have no idea what this truly means for the program. Kevin will organize our defensive board from top to bottom, and that's what we needed. Then adding (Orgeron), are you kidding me? (some loud yelling) This staff just became one of the best recruiting groups in the nation. I promise."

Noteworthy linebackers in Steele's 2011 class at Clemson:

Tony Steward 5 star - Current Buffalo Bill

Stephone Anthony 5 star - Current New Orleans Saint

This doesn't address production.
I'm not arguing that they can't recruit.
I'm arguing that the talent they will have on campus won't be that much better than was already there.

LSU has ALWAYS recruited.
LSU hasn't always had a good defense.
They did under Chavis, and don't again.

You proved like 3 posts ago that recruiting doesn't mean jack shite without development.
Your entire argument is based off of hope, while ignoring statistics.

Steele gave up .3 more yards per play and 30 yards more per game, each year he was at Clemson. Despite the improved recruiting.

Get ready to hear about how stats don't tell the whole story.

LSU has ALWAYS recruited. - Maybe at WR, RB, and DB? DLU had faded under Chavis. LBs sucked as well.
LSU hasn't always had a good defense. - Okay?
They did under Chavis, and don't again. - Chavis didn't have the 2011 defense every year, my friend.

You proved like 3 posts ago that recruiting doesn't mean jack shite without development. - So we hired a successful DL and LB coach
Your entire argument is based off of hope, while ignoring statistics. - Really?

Clemson's defense grew younger in 2010 and culminated in 2011 with the defense playing like crap.

You said this was on Haley.

You are the only tiger in the world upset with top 10 defenses year in and year out.

Debatable, as previously mentioned. You hired recruiters and when you google their names you find they are known for recruiting.

Really?

I'm pretty fricking sure that the DC should be held accountable for his DL playing like dogshit aswell. Why didn't Chavis cut his BBQ buddy loose?

You're really fricking dense if you think defense rankings mean they were great defenses. 2012 got skullfricked by Clemson and Alabama at the end of games. 2013 sucked hardcore until we face Aggie. 2014 got fricking mauled by Wisconsin, Miss St, Auburn, Florida, etc

All of Chavis' laurels come from the 2011 defense that was built in the 2009 recruiting class. That defense was full of NFL talent at every level.

Whoever recruited the 2007, 2008, and 2009 classes. You can't put dogshit out on the field and win with it.

So he gets the credit for ours playing well?
So either we have more talent for Chavis to utilize or Haley can't coach, which puts the blame on Haley.

Yeah, that's me.

So you would have expected results when?

No one takes your average football program serious. Try winning the SEC. Until then shut your mouth

No shite! What the frick do you think I've been saying? Chavis is a great coach but he can't fricking recruit and it's left us with dogshit to play with.

A&M had loaded up on talent and developed it before he got there. Y'all have a good DL coach.

2011 level defense? It may never come. I know that the 2014 and 2015 secondaries should supplement the 2016 front 7 but it may never come together. I think if 2017 could be a beastly year on defense if 2016 isn't. It all depends on if the talent on the front seven develops quickly under Steele and O and that the schemes get knocked into their heads.

Not so sure about that, bucko. Not everyone is sold on "STEELE IS TERRIBLE HURRR"

Agreed. It's been an absolutely terrible experience trying to follow what you blame on Chavis, what he gets credit for, and what his staff's role was.

I've gathered you think LSU defense was not good outside of 2011, Steele is a better DC with worse stats, and Chavis is responsible for talent deficiencies on the line he wasn't in charge of recruiting or developing.

-Chavis was the DC. He did just that. Coordinated the defense.

-His specialty was LBs. He failed to recruit and develop LBs.

-His job was to oversee every defensive aspect (Miles is an offensive coach) and he kept Haley on staff.

-Chavis was also responsible for choosing who he wanted on defense and it's been told many times that Chavis simply skipped recruiting meetings or stormed out.

-Steele is working with a depleted defense that is lacking in talent at levels that haven't been so at LSU in over 10 years.

-Steele and Orgeron have already garnered the commitments and attentions of many of the top defensive athletes in the country at levels that haven't been seen in a very long time.

I don't know how to say it any other way. Chavis is to blame for the lack of talent on LSU's current roster.

Would your defense be better this year with Chavis as DC, yes or no?

ETA: upvoted for you explaining your opinion, but I disagree with it.

I think so, yeah. I think the familiar schemes coupled with improved DL play would be good.
