I was inspired to read about Tennessee's situation since Fulmer was fired and Hamilton took over from Doug Dickey...holy frick!

quote:

PHILLIP FULMER ON FORMER TENNESSEE A.D. MIKE HAMILTON: “WASN’T PREPARED FOR THE JOB”

Tennessee football hasn’t finished the season with a winning record since 2009. Former coach Phillip Fulmer, who was forced out at UT following a 5-7 season in 2008 thinks he knows he reason why.

In Gulf Shores, Alabama this weekend at SEC BeachFest, Fulmer put the focus on previous leadership at the university, including Mike Hamilton’s stint as athletic director.

“What happened to us basically was our leadership. We had four presidents in six years. We ended up with an athletic director that wasn’t prepared for the job. Not a terrible guy or anything like that. He got twisted like a pretzel by the middle management of the university. We lost a lot of the edges that you have to have. (Current athletic director) Dave Hart’s very aware of those, and he’s working to change things. We didn’t get dumb or lazy all of a sudden. There were obviously some things that were different.

“When you have a great president and a great athletic director and you replace them with substandard people that have no idea, what do you expect is going to happen? And you do that three other times? It’s crazy.” Hamilton replaced Doug Dickey as AD in 2003 and served in that position until he resigned in June of 2011. Tennessee has had five presidents in the past decade.

Fulmer voiced his support for the current football coach. “I like Butch Jones a lot.”

MrSEC

I honestly had no idea of all that UT went through. Grats on coming out the other side.

You could write a novel on the follies of UT's administration at every level over the past 10 years. The whole Tennessee General Assembly just stood by as the state's premier University was being butchered by four presidents in 7 years.

I like Tyndall, he really had good teams at Morehead with Kenneth Faried.
A little surprised he went from Morehead to UT in 2 years, but he's a good coach for sure. Will be interesting to see how he does at a major conference level.

Where the frick have I heard that theme before?

Then you can be a big name coach that bleed the school's colors and have the rug pulled underneath you at the last minute.

Yeah, I didn't realize it was that awful either. Hamilton sucked as an AD, but there were definitely some other issues there as well. Those things aren't small problems either.

If Tennessee fires him before March 16, 2017 it's 3 million. It drops to 1.75 million for the next year through March 15, 2018. Then it falls to 1.5 million on March 16, 2018.

If Tyndall leaves, it's the same numbers.

If I recall, our assistants got much higher bonuses…I think our assistant AD to basketball got this type of money.
Lulz, UT must be poor.

For Kenny Payne (who is making $350,000 this season), that’s $58,334.
For John Robic ($300,000), that’s $50,000.
For Orlando Antigua ($275,000), that’s $45,834.
