In 1941 Vandy was #10 in overall win%, Tennessee was #21. ( LINK)
What year do you suppose Vandy fans stopped thinking of their program as elite?

UT sucked a lot at the end of his tenure. There's no guarantee they'd be any better with him as coach.
'04, '06 and '07 were fairly good years for the Vols.
Coach Fulmer was let go less than a year after winning the East because our rat-faced AD panicked.
He spent a bazillion dollars on facilities upgrades because that was all he knew how to do.
The key to the down turn in '08, in my opinion, was that Coach Cutcliffe left for Duke. He and Fulmer had a great synergy.
Fulmer had signed Tadj Boyd to come to K-town but rat-face 2 Kiffin sent him packing.

You guys can talk your Mizzous and what nots all you like.
All-time bowl appearances
School Appearances W L T Win %
Alabama 59 34 22 3 .602
Texas 52 27 23 2 .538
Georgia 50 27 19 3 .582
Tennessee 51 27 24 0 .529
USC 48 32 16 0 .667
Nebraska 48 24 24 0 .500
Really in the SEC over time it is Bammer and UT. Then everyone else.

I dont think it matters. Message boards weren't around yet, that's when the pissing contests started

UT has been down the past decade. Any reasonable vol fan will admit that, however they are well on their way to being a force in college football again. The obsession shown by opposing fans in this thread shines a light on tfear.

I wouldn't go that far. You have climbed from the depths of being dog shite level but you aren't anywhere near "national force" level either.
It's gonna take more than a 4-loss season with the best win being over a greyson lambert-led UGA team for that.

I'm seeing:
Team, Games, Percent
1 Alabama, 63, 59.5%
2 Texas, 53, 52.8%
3 Nebraska, 52, 50.0%
4 Georgia, 51, 59.8%
5 USC, 51, 64.7%
6 Tennessee, 51, 52.9%
7 Oklahoma, 49, 58.2%
8 LSU, 47, 52.1%
9 Ohio St., 46, 47.8%
10 Penn St., 46, 63.0%
Tennessee looks a lot closer to LSU than to Alabama and Georgia in terms of total games and win%.

You haven't won 10 games in a season since 2007.
You won 8 games last year, "full force"
By the way since 2007 Mizzou has won 10 games 5 times.

Yes, was much more clearly demarcated in the early 2000s obviously but the gap is getting smaller

Won 9 games, and lost 4 by 1 possession each to 2 playoff contenders (including SEC champ), SEC east champ, and Arkansas (they just beat us...no excuses). We hired one of the best DCs out there to combat our late-game collapses. We return basically the whole team. See OU football in 2014. Same shite, lost some close games to good teams, returned a bunch of starters, and made it to the CFP in 15. Its not unheard of.

And how'd you do last year?
Its just funny because 2007 is the beginning of the best football period in your history. Before that, you had 1 10 win season in your whole history (1960). If you take a team A's best period, and team B's worst period, and compare it, yeah you're going to see stuff like that.
How many times do you have to be reminded that no one gives a shite what Missouri has done, especially pre-SEC?

Mizzou is just not in the same category with Tennessee.
And likely never will be.
"Missouri's football program dates back to 1890, and has appeared in 31 bowl games (including 10 major bowl appearances: 4 Orange Bowls, 3 Cotton Bowls, 2 Sugar Bowls, and 1 Fiesta Bowl). Missouri has won 15 conference titles, 5 division titles, and has 2 national championship selections recognized by the NCAA.[3] Entering the 2016 season, Missouri's all-time record is 668–541–53 .550. - wiki
"As of November 28, 2015 Tennessee is ranked 10th all-time won-lost records by percentage and eighth by victories. The all-time record is 819-374-53 (.679). At Neyland Stadium, the Vols have a record of 454–123–17 (.779). -- wiki
UT I believe is second in wins among all colleges in its current venue. GA Tech is first.

I thought we were talking about recent history? I love you guys who want to go back 150 years to tell me about 2016.

Here, let me help. Recent history. Last year you went 5-7 and fired your coach, after we beat your arse.

Congrats on your first win ever against Mizzou.
Breaking the .500 in conference games since 2007 was quite the feat for you. I'm shocked you didn't throw a parade bringing in retired guys who remember when Tennessee wasn't a door mat.

Where Tennessee ranks the last 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, 20, 30, 40, and 50 years, according to statistics at Stassen. This, UT fans, is reality.
2010-2015: Tied with Middle Tennessee State at 75th in the nation, following Tulsa, Duke, Ball State, Rice. Trails 10 SEC teams, including Missouri.
2000-2015: 35th in the nation, following Northern Illinois, Toledo, South Carolina, Missouri. Ranks 8th in SEC.
1995-2015: 19th in the nation, behind 5 other SEC teams. And this includes your best years since the 1940s and 50s.
1985-2015: 13th in the nation, behind 4 other SEC teams.
1975-2015: 18tth in nation, behind 4 SEC teams.
1965-2015: 14th in nation, behind 3 SEC teams.
I'm not checking the SEC titles for all those time frames, but since 1970, UT is 6th in the SEC in conference titles.
In summation: This top 10 history that you keep talking about wasn't in the lifetime of any of us, unless there are some really old guys on this forum.
edit: Ok. So it's 6 years, 11 years, 16 years, 21, 31, 41, and 51. I figured somebody would correct me on it, so there.
