"As you can see, there is no top 10 in the last 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, 20, 30, 40,or 50 years."

Uh, what?

What about UT's undefeated NC year of 1998?

Ranked 3rd in 1995?

Ranked 9th in '96?

Holy cow you Bammer Homer:

"The 1967 Tennessee Volunteers football team represented the University of Tennessee in the 1967 season. Playing as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the team was led by head coach Doug Dickey, in his fourth year, and played their home games at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee. They finished the season with a record of nine wins and two losses (9–2 overall, 6–0 in the SEC) as SEC Champions and with a loss against Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. The Volunteers' offense scored 283 points while the defense allowed 141 points. At season’s end, Tennessee was recognized as national champions by Litkenhous."

I could go on.

Hey can you split that up by decade?

As noted, the time frames were demarcated by 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, and 50 years.

I didn't act like an idiot. You did.

You made your post just to poke at UT fans. It isn't backed up by facts. It is full of easily refuted assertions.

Are you related to Hillary Clinton? She doesn't seem able to tell when she is telling a bunch of whopping lies either.

Congrats to the Vols! I thought it was much worse. They are on the right track with Butch!

As noted, this does not accurately represent the success of a team over the year when you anchor it to "since 19##." Take each decade independently, calculate the rankings, and then get back to me. Someone in the 2001 wouldn't say "Man UT is going to suck really bad in the next 15 years so all their success in the 90s doesn't matter to me right now"

Yes. It's a fact, just as posted, and I even posted the link so that you can check for yourself. Anybody can check it.

The point is to skew statistics to fulfill his bias.

UT won 100 games in the 90's and Bammer only won 74.

UT is clearly better than Bammer. Way better.

If there ever was proof of the saying, "Lies, damn lies and statistics," this guy has got it down pat.

It isn't as complex as a couple of you are tying to make it. I read a post about UT being a top 10 program, so I checked it myself. So was UT a top 10 program the last 5 years? No. The last 10 years? No. The last 15 years? No. The last 20, 30, 40, or 50 years? No, no, no, and no.

It's that simple.

Diminishing returns is setting in.

How can you say that there is "no top 10" in blah, blah blah,

When UT claims national titles in 1998 and 1967?

You didn't cut down any trees at Auburn did you?

Walt, you seem like a good dude. Can you explain to me something? How come Huddie says we've consistently sucked throughout our history when this article has us in the top 10 football teams of the decade for the 30s, 40s, 60s, 90s, and 00s?

You said we haven't been top 10 since the 70s but our S+P rankings have us top 10 for the 90s and the 00s. Your time period is biased against teams that's have been bad recently. You've got to look at each decade individually, because you cant tell the future. UT was regarded as one of the best programs in the country at the turn of the century. Your numbers don't change that.

I never said that you weren't top 10 at any time since 1970, and 17 isn't that bad.

1 Nebraska 0.77595 446 127 5 578
2 Ohio State 0.77314 422 121 8 551
3 Boise State 0.76724 266 80 2 348
4 Oklahoma 0.76106 426 131 8 565
5 Michigan 0.73703 408 143 8 559
6 Alabama 0.73049 401 147 3 551
7 Penn State 0.72451 404 153 2 559
8 Florida State 0.72202 398 152 4 554
9 Georgia 0.70268 390 163 7 560
10 Southern Cal 0.70000 379 159 12 550
11 Texas 0.69749 386 166 5 557
12 Florida 0.68650 383 173 7 563
13 Notre Dame 0.68603 376 171 4 551
14 Brigham Young 0.68206 390 181 3 574
15 Auburn 0.67663 370 175 7 552
16 Miami-Florida 0.67153 368 180 0 548
17 Tennessee

edit: I just noticed that though UT is 5th among SEC teams since 1970, they are still ahead of LSU and Arkansas, so that's pretty good. You don't see any LSU or Arkansas fans freaking out about it.

A certain time period shouldn't be negatively affected by the time period after it, but thats the way your numbers are set up. Like I said, at the turn of the century, you'd see UT on the most peoples list of top 5/10 programs in the country. So to say we haven't been consistently top 10 is wrong.

That list has Boise State at 3rd FFS

This boil on my arse shouldn't be so irritating either, but that's just the way it is.

edit: Well, it's been fun but I need to work a little bit. Keep it to a roar.

Fun fact: LSU is now 10th all time for weeks ranked in the AP poll and passed UT this past season. 576 weeks. Kinda cool. We're commin' for ya, UT.

You'd think especially a Bammer fan could let well enough alone.
