The timeline of these kinds of things worry me. The head coach should not get a call before someone is arrested. He should not get a call before the damn crime scene is investigated. That is fricked if you ask me. Now if Butch is getting phone calls after the police have been invesigating I don't really have a problem. That is to be expected. But the whole culture of protection and entitlement needs to stop. When a player fricks up he needs to be treated as such. It happens at most major universities. The culture will dissolve at most places over time. There are probably dozens of lawsuits that could pop up like this one throughout the nation.

This stupid article says "The records—which only indicate the time and duration of calls, not the content—could corroborate the allegations made by former player Drae Bowles...."

How do the time and duration of the calls tell this apparently psychic "reporter" anything about the content of the calls and corroborate anything? What BS drivel ! The crap that passes for "reporting" nowadays....

I imagine the person that takes the new position at UT will be very busy. It must be frustrating dealing with Hillbilly Barney Fife's all day everyday because of the crime culture at UToof.

I agree that the cops were to hasty in calling the head coach. But Coach Jones suspended these players before charges were even filed and they are awaiting trial this summer. When police searched the apartment they found condoms and drug paraphernalia.

To think that Butch is somehow protecting these players or tried to hide evidence is ludicrous.

The Vol fans here seem somewhat defensive.

You keep missing the point. No one is saying that Butch necessarily tried to cover anything up, or that he ever would. The problem is that the police gave him that opportunity. No one has a problem with the police calling the coach to tell them that there is an issue, but they should not be calling him or anyone else before they even investigate the crime scene. And they sure shouldn't be giving a heads up hours prior to even investigating. The fact the head coach is getting called hours before a crime scene is even investigated screams of police protection for the football program. Surely you can see where it's a bad look and where if the coach wasn't a stand up guy that it could have some real shady outcome.

Does 38-31 upset me, sure...but how does 1-5 since 2010 sit with you. I literally have no idea what it is like for my team to suck as bad as Tennessee has the past 8 years.

And it's kinda sad how much you Vol fans will stand up for Peyton Manning when he sexually assaulted a trainer and then went on to try and drag her name through the mud. And yes, all that has been proven.

I'm not missing any point. I've already said that this is a stupid policy to have on the police's part. But this doesn't scream of police protection of the football program because the phone call wasn't made to circumvent justice. It was a heads up courtesy call that there are players on the team that need to be suspended. It's the same policy that every major football program has with the local police. You think that there is an SEC coach that wouldn't recieve a phone call from the police immediately when an investigation is opened on a player? Do you really think that police in other cities refrain from calling a head football coach until they are satisfied everything has been investigated? I don't want to come across as a jerk but you seem very naive.

We've won just as many SEC titles in the past 8 years as you have

I could go into great detail about how bad the Vols have sucked or the majority of this past decade, but everyone also already knows this to be fact as well.

Sounds like a good position for a former player. They already know all of the cops in town anyway.

Yeah. It's almost like UT fans would be the most familiar with how bad we've sucked. Considering we follow the team pretty closely and everything.
