That's a fair post. But if you didn't go through those stages you were one of the very few LSU fans that didn't go all in on the "no way A&M takes our awesome DC from us" narrative. Heck I didn't think we stood a chance, your AD screwed the pooch with the wording if his contract that pissed him off.

I did not say any of that. I have learned that where there is smoke, there is usually fire on these coaching search rumors. So, I was withholding judgment. And, if A&M was throwing the bank at him, I assumed he would go.

But let's face it Chief was the best DC available after MusChump...and that is very much up for debate.

Chief wasn't available until A&M threw $1.7 million at him. Is anyone else available for record breaking money?

It's a huge loss for LSU if they don't get really lucky on the new hire.

I agree completely and have said so at every opportunity. It is also a huge win for A&M.

My contention here is that Sumlin was affected TOO MUCH by Chavis' success against HIM and that that kind of thinking will be his undoing. He thinks too much of himself. I think that that is why he went after Chavis - not just because he is the best.

I have never thought that Chavis was the best DC in the business. I think he is good and I was glad to have him. But, I never considered him really elite. The talent that LSU had on defense from 2010-2012 was ridiculous and since Chavis doesn't recruit, I didn't really think that it was all because of him.

I am happy that you are happy.

How about if you tell me where I'm wrong?

I have yet to see a single Aggie disagree with anything that I've said.

Looks like a lot of insecurity being put forward by Aggies here. Just laugh and say "melt" but never counter a single point.

The laughter looks like nervous laughter. But, go on.

Keep spinning that. The only reason the marine was in the fight was because he tried to help the kids the football players were beating up.

But carry on with your revisionist history.

Best thing is, you defended a thug who took you nowhere while the qb that could have gotten you to the promised land sat on the bench

A&M needs a lot more than chavis to get the level of defense he had at LSU, and frankly i dont think their defense improves much at all, sumlin's offense will leave the defense on the field majority of the game

Look. Chavis is good. I never denied that.

But, if you are going to throw out $1.7 million, you can get anyone from anywhere.

Chavis wasn't on the market.

His value is MUCH higher in the eyes of Sumlin/A&M fans because he completely shut A&M down every time they played. That is my point. That increased his value to Sumlin and increases his value to the A&M fans who are treating this like it is the greatest hire ever.

For LSU fans who watched 4th quarter lead after 4th quarter lead evaporate, his value is not as high. Yes, he is very good. He is stable and solid and that is what A&M needs. But, for the money paid, I think there was an over-value on A&M's part related to a sense that if he could shut down Sumlin then he must be the best. And, that is arrogance and it is a problem.

That is all that I am saying.

Gee. I just thought we were getting a much needed upgrade at DC. Maybe we should have hired you instead?

You seem to know a lot about offense, defense, Chavis, Sumlin, psychology, finances, game stategy, market value, personnel, etc... etc..

Thanks all knowing one!!

Are Aggies thinking this hire means they will finally get a win vs. LSU this upcoming season? Just curious.

I have said that Chavis is very good, was a great hire by A&M, and that LSU is in trouble if they do not make a really good hire.

I am not insecure. I am honest about the situation. You should try it.

The truth is that Sumlin became enamored with Chavis because he stopped HIM. So, throw the bank at him. But, A&M's offense is not the end all be all of the SEC and Chavis had a lot of other problems. He needs elite talent at DT and MLB and, well, really all over the field to be successful. He is a good coach. Congrats.

But name who would have been better that was available?

Foster was waiting for us to either get Chavis or not. So he was third on our list.

Who was better than Chavis?

With LSUs defense, just a little bit of offense could have won them multiple crystal footballs. It's always been the offenses that have lacked.

And you say that I am the one melting.

This thread has turned into something really glorious. I thought I might get some discussion instead, the insecurity of the Aggie fanbase is on full display and there is not a single answer that anyone can give to what I am saying.

A&M just paid $1.7 million in guaranteed money to the guy who was GREAT at stopping Sumlin and good at other things too. The Spring game in College Station should be awesome.

Chavis shut down HUNH offenses. That is the trend in Texas high schools and around the nation. This is exactly the kind of defense we need going forward. This is Sumlin watching trends and making moves to stay ahead. See how I can spin it the other way (which is more likely the truth than you meltdown).

How was that?
