Dan Mullen will be higher paid at Mississippi State next year than any coach in the history of the University of Florida. Damn near already is.

Florida has to buy trophy cases though.

One thing that I think may affect where Mullen chooses to go when or if he leaves MSU is the quality of education available for his children. Let's be honest, neither Starkville Public Schools or Starkville Academy are anything to brag about.

Florida is not a top 5 job, sorry.

Yeah, I see that tossed around, but I don't even know how relevant it is, because I can name 5 coaches in the SEC right now who wouldn't leave their current school to go to Florida.

I'm not talking about from MSU giving him that big of a raise, talking about other schools. Its called an exaggeration... As far as who is taking about it... read the thread. 8,10,12 million have
been mentioned. I am aware Merlins won't make 10 million next years.

And let's not get carried away about that, either. We're talking about the only school, up until the late 1980s, that had never won either an SEC football or basketball championship. So when we're talking about "Florida history"...well, history is a relative term.

Why are you talking about ancient history -- when the SEC hasn't been in the current money stratosphere but for 5ish years?

Fact is -- he will make more money at MSU next year than UF paid Meyer after 2 titles, a Heisman, and a Sugar Bowl win. Meyer got $4mil per at that time. Mullen will make $3.8ish this year after bonuses if the year continues the course -- and will get ~ $1mil raise next year to base ~$4.2mil with the ability to make up to $5mil. That's standard negotiating $$ without having any form of bidding war.

If someone wants to actually take Mullen from us because of $$ -- they are going to have to make him the 2nd highest paid coach in CFB history to do it.

Terry said the same damn thing. That's what they're supposed to say. If the money is right she'll be saying, "Mom & Dad, we're all moving to..."

That's rather embarrassing on State's part.

Talk about zero return on investment.

Which is the underlying reason that OM fans have their jimmies rustled by the very idea that anyone could ever spurn Oxford, when other successful coaches don't spurn Starkville.

It's been the same story ever since Tubs left. First with Sherrill, now with Mullen. Meanwhile, we haven't had a coach use us as a stepping stone since the 60s, and his name is on the side of Texas' stadium...

Agree given the circumstances.

Also, Freeze's family is in north Mississippi. If you're going to use what's in the OP as a reason for why Mullen isn't leaving Starkville, you have to use Freeze's family ties to north Mississippi/Oxford as a reason he isn't leaving Ole Miss.

Name the last successful coach State had that didn't leave outside of being fired/forced to resign.

#1. Will match OM's total weeks at #1 in the history of the AP before we head to Tuscaloosa. $100 mil invested in football. Packed out stadium. Record donations. Overall revenue that's tripled. University that's becoming it's own monster monetarily. I'd say it's a damn good ROI.

You should be a professional on zero ROI investments though, since you are still paying Nutt $2.5 per, probably still paying Ogre, and will soon be paying Muschamp $10 mil to go away.
