I think he's implying that Tanner and/or major boosters were wanting him to retire?

This is my take

It doesnt matter what his reason is. People have made up their minds on Spurrier's resignation.
Its never clean when a long time coach is beginning to be "forced" out or when age questions emerge. Eddie Rob, Mack Brown Joe Pa, it seems it just never ends with everyone cheering.
Some are way worse than others but its rarely clean with no hard feelings.
Spurrier has earned the right to go out however he chooses. This way may actually be the best thing for USCe. At least its quick vs letting the season play out and have this topic to continue to linger. USCe is just not competitive this year and each loss would continue to create a discussion about the coach. This cant be good for recruiting.

Sounds like Spurrier just doesn't think he can do it anymore and wants to let someone who might can, try. Regardless, IMO he should have announced his intentions to retire and finished out the season. It's not like an assistant is going to turn this dumpster fire around at this point in the season. Spurrier owes his staff, players, and the fans more than quitting on the spot mid-season. That's some Bobby Petrino shite

Comparing Spurrier to that scumbag Petrino is fricked up..

He told the group that he felt as though he was unable to make them better and he was going to give his assistant coaches the opportunity to make them better.

I read that as Spurrier saying his team sucks and he's done trying to make them better. From his point of view, it's hopeless. He's GTFO and heading to the golf course.

In all seriousness, I think he just wanted to get out on his own terms. Probably figured that the way the season is unfolding the heat would start to get turned up and he didn't want to deal with that hanging over his head with a team he didn't feel was capable of improving to a level that he would be satisfied with. Add all that up together and he decided to let somebody else take the wheel.

Honestly, I only like Spurrier more for this. He's recognizing the situation and not stubbornly clinging on. He's got nothing left to prove. It's really a matter of what's best for him. I hope he gets to spend a lot more time with family and look forward to having him in a broadcast booth soon. The color commentary is going to be gold.

So translation. He is taking his ball and going home like a pussy. This is typical Spurrier. The administration had a legitimate talk with him and he acted like a bitch and quit. This is not a surprise to me at all and it is a perfect ending to his career because he has always been a crybaby.

Well…bye!

What an eloquent mature post from the message board poster god. I don't remember Spurrier ever being a crybaby. Gene Stallings has a lot of great things to say about Spurrier. He is a first class Alabama true blood. Too bad you are not.

So if not a cry baby, then he is a bitch? Quitting like this is at least one or the other.

He could announce retirement today for the end of the year and accomplish what you have said. Quitting now is The ultimate bitch move.

Steve Spurrier's supposed reason for retiring? [NOT CONFIRMED] by Mr.Sinister
uga and bama fans are so mad about this? why?

I have never seen opposing fans be so mad about another teams head coach resigning. uga and bama should rejoice, uga no longer has to be worried about spurrier making them his target game every year.

bama no longer has to worry about him making truth statements about their god saban.

Calling one out for what they are doesn't mean I am mad about it. What a stupid idea on your part.
