uga and bama fans are so mad about this? why?

I have never seen opposing fans be so mad about another teams head coach resigning. uga and bama should rejoice, uga no longer has to be worried about spurrier making them his target game every year.

bama no longer has to worry about him making truth statements about their god saban.

Is that your way of reconciling mediocrity? That's bad man.

yep.. "you can't fire me, I quit".
This is what I'm thinking. He probably didn't appreciate Tanner's approach or tone with him, and said, "You know what? frick it & frick you. I'm out." That's somewhat understandable, depending on the circumstances. It wasn't my team, so I'm not going to defend or crucify him for it.

Dude got some criticism from the powers that be and quit in an immature huff.

Yep, that's my thoughts as well. Ray Tanner was a bad arse coach and wanted to know what he was going to do to right the ship. Spurruer didn't like the criticism, didn't want to continue to get losses on his record, and bailed on his team. I can guarantee he has told the team to keep fighting, don't quit and all that type of coach speak all season and then completely does a 180 and quits himself because he can't take the heat. He was a great coach but now his legacy will be of a quitter when times were at their worst. Great message to those players he recruited, not to mention the current natural dissaster in the area, he should have been a leader and buckled down and finished the season.

Do you even reading comprehension bro?

The whole thread is a anger fueled rant between bama and uga fans. SC fans are pretty much ok with this, as you would know, since you read the SC board everyday.

I don't mind voicing my distaste for the guy and, as a Georgia fan, I'm sure you can understand that as he is the greatest coaching nemesis in the history of our program.

But let's not kid ourselves about his personality. Now, if he quit because he realized the game had passed him by, or he lost his competitive fire, and he just wanted to do the noble thing for the school and the kids - good on him.

But that would be WAY out of character. He has never put up with his coaching being questioned. So, again, I'm guessing he quit in an immature huff. If I'm wrong, so be it.

Regardless, I am grateful to South Carolina for giving Georgia the opportunity to send him off with a proper beating. Much obliged.

Eh, I view it as a retaliation for the loss ya'll suffered last year... but to each his own.

Haven't read the whole thread, nor your board in quite awhile. You guys are too sensitive and predictable. I don't care why he retired, he has certainly earned the right to call his own shots. Good luck with the search, honestly hope that you make a good hire.

He's quitting on his team while Columbia climbs out from under a natural disaster. It's a bitch move and tarnishes his legacy. Great coach, bitch way to go out. Sad.

I want to see what reasons come out, but if it's not something significant, than this is a true statement.

This is typical Spurrier.... just up and quits when they told him they wanted a change next year. I respect his coaching ability and his Fun n Gun gave us fits in the 90's. he has always been a me-me-me diva.
