I'd not want a coach to stay who's no longer motivated, competitive or hungry for wins. He'd do nothing but infect the players with the same attitude.

Spurrier did the right thing.

I agree with you. I think he ruined his legacy as a football coach by being a quitter.

Im sure ESPN is going to pay him well to replace Corso on gameday. Less stress more golf, beers, and Arbys

If you write him a letter he may reply back. He may give you a pat on the back and tell you he's sorry. I know he cares about what you think.

lol 10 point win isn't a beatdown.

2 years ago Clemson dominated SC but the punt returner,a normally reliable WR, fumbled two, then Boyd got hacked on the hands in a scrum for another fumble. the same would be a flagrant foul in basketball and an ejection. lol

SC got blown up on both sides of the ball last year with your best passing QB of all time.

getting dominated is 63-17 at your stadium. lol

Anyone can display great character when they win, a persons true character is revealed when they lose.

Spurrier is not a great man, he just coached some good football teams.

Maybe he has family issues or something.

But if not, let me ask: would he have quit if his team was 6-0 or 5-1? Of course not. Slogging through a bad season irritates or bores him or whatever, so off he goes.

The team he fielded team on the other hand, is expected to finish the season. They can't just quit after a bad start. All they can do is watch Spunky ride off into the sunset in his golf cart.

I don't really care, but I do think it's funny how some coaches get criticized, while others are admired, for doing the same thing. Some around here criticized Bert for not coaching Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl, even though it wasn't even an option for him. But Spurrier quits mid-season and people are defending him.

Steve never did anything like that and he has proven to be a sociopath. He only cares for himself and golf.

When Spurrier won his Heisman in 1966 he donated it back to UF "for future Florida fans to enjoy". The UF student body pitched in and bought him a replica one. Spurrier is the reason the Heisman trust now gives two trophies, the real one to the player and a replica to the school.

The overwhelming initial reaction to his retirement was one of understanding... I think that's been mostly replaced by a perception of a bit of cowardice. By his own mouth he quit because he didn't expect his team to succeed, even when the powers that be asked him to hang on until the end of the seasobn. This was a man who when he had superior athletes enjoyed running up the score on his opponents. In the final analysis, he could dish it out but could not take it.
