It was never about who deserves to get in and all about attracting the eyeballs. FSU was not gonna be competitive without its starting QB and ESPN didn't want another lopsided semifinal, which would've hurt their TV ratings, so they lobbied the committee to leave the Seminoles out.

Culturally, geographically, or sports-wise. They are not even Southern and have little to no history with other schools in the conference. Their market is dominated by professional sports. Their 60k-seat stadium is tiny compared to other SEC venues, and yet they can't even fill it most of the time.

I don't think so. The whole point of a 1-7 format is to play everyone home and away over a 4-year period and for that to work, you need 6 rotating opponents....
