Moorhead was 38-13 as a head coach at Fordham, his alma mater. The year before he got there, they were 1-10.
He was the OC on that UConn team that went to the Fiesta Bowl in 2010.

Yea - that's a very smart hire if it happens. Hire some guys who are familiar with the recruiting landscape and hit the ground running.

Best of luck to Miss State. JMO but Dan did a really good job. This hire will have to do more with less as well.
Pruitt did get to work in the interview process so that's not all bad. Now he can go recruit and work on that delayed blitz thing.....just saying

Moorhead seems like a good guy to take a chance on.

Moorhead is the offensive coordinator at Penn State, SI and Yahoo named him the #1 assistant coach in the nation. He came to Penn State from FCS Fordham where we was a head coach. He took over a 1-10 team and turned them into a FCS Playoff team three straight years. Franklin hired him at Penn State and PSU is 21-5 since.
He also was the OC at UConn and hindsight says that he was the reason that they had that run to the Fiesta Bowl.
He's considered an offensive innovator, and does some things outside the box. He's a good fit at MSU, but has zero southern ties.
Brent Venables is the defensive coordinator at Clemson. Before that, he was the DC at Oklahoma. He has been a coordinator since 1999 (came with Stoops from Kansas State, his alma mater). The guy can coach, but a concern is that he is the top choice to replace Snyder at Kansas State, which can't be more than a couple years down the road.

Just hope if we get Moorhead we hire a legit DC instead of that complete dud Mullen got in his first season.

I hate the flight stuff, but apparently Moorhead is in Starkville right now touring facilities. There's a plane scheduled to go back to Pennsylvania in a couple hours. The same flight made a loop to Greenville, SC this morning.

He actually said that Franklin was scrambling until he hired him and is something like 23-5 since.
Can confirm. I have PSU people in my family. The PSU faithful were very sour on Franklin a couple of years ago. He was given the old "get new coordinators or leave" speech. He struck gold with Moorhead and now everyone thinks Franklin is A-OK.
Penn State leads the B10 in passing. That is more than a little weird. Moorhead completely changed PSU's identity. He would do the same thing at MSU over time.

Can we acknowledge that neither of these candidates would be considering MSU were it not for Mullen elevating that program? He may have spurned y'all for UF, but he clearly left the program better than he found it.

No doubt. The runner up to Mullen when we made that hire was Oklahoma DC Kevin Wilson (now Ohio State DC), who remarked that no one could win at MSU. Indiana hired him and fired him, and Mullen just left MSU for arguably a top five job.
This time around, we really haven't had any trouble getting interviews.

Any chance you could swoop in and take Stoops? Would really help me out.

I don't know a rational state fan that would dispute that

Venables would be a great hire. MSU defense would be stout.

Didn't Mullen claim Florida as a lateral move

At his press conference yesterday he labeled it "coach speak". I don't think any rational State fan would argue State being on the same level as Florida

MsState is gonna hire both... one has HC and one as coordinator
