Source?? Because Clowney was quoted saying that he would have committed to Alabama "a long time ago, if they ran a 4-3 defense", instead of a 3-4..

Look, Tungo, I only live some 25 miles from all three of these kids. You think I would make up something like this? I am an ex-newspaperman and still have contacts.

No, Saban did not promise to abandon the 3-4. But, Tungo, you have grossly over-simplified. He did everything but that. Even using Clowny as a sort of spur linebacker. That is changing his scheme, or promising to. I like Saban, but he is probably, along with that Tennessee coach, the biggest liar in the SEC, and we have some whoppers. He just does it better.

A Saban prepared team would have never been blown out by Nebraska. Lost maybe, but not blown out. That's Spurrier for you. He can get lazy sometimes. Im sure the x's and o's all looked amazing on the chalkboard going into the game though.

A Saban prepared team would also have not won the SEC that year, because UF had won it the year before, and Saban has never won it back to back. So technically a Saban team would not have been there in your little transitive universe

I dont like comparing national titles because if the SEC was viewed as it is today in the BCS era, spurriers floridas teams would have competed for way more national titles.

But it was not viewed the same way and for good reason. The SEC was very average in the 90's. Florida was good, Tennessee was good, Bama was good a few years, and that's about it.

So when did we start sprinkling the SEC speed into kids cereals?

Spurrier's only national title: A rematch v. FSU. FSU literally beat UF, then had to play UF in the very next game for the national title. What say you LSU fans? Legit title?

I personally think it is shite. But a little less shite since they lost on the road, and still won there conference. But shite nonetheless

The SEC was not keeping kids home the way we do now. Teams like FSU, Miami, Nebraska, Ohio St, Michigan, etc were stealing a ton of talent out of the South.

They have to think it's a shite title, no way to accept it as legit.

His point if is Spurrier was at Bama he would be raping left and right just like he did at Florida. Proof is in the pudding, spurrier raped way harder at florida then saban has at Bama

ETA: Just thinking of Spurrier at Bama gives me nightmares

I really liked how Spurrier(at Florida) would beat teams and not let his foot off the gas, regardless of score. He'd go in dry and WOULD NOT STOP...
Wish Saban was more like this... I think if Spurrier were at Bama, he would be a nightmare for many people..

So what does that make Spurrier? He is not a great recruiter, and he hasn't won anything in many years, so he must not be a great coach.
I can't imagine being for A&M, but on Aug 28, 2014 I will be pulling for A&M to shut Spurrier up.

I think of Alabama's 2011 title as legit but I would hate to have to hang my entire career on only 1 title which was the result of a rematch.

Look I don't know what your point is. Y'all beat us and are national champs. Same with Florida that year. But 95% of the country besides Bama or UF fans will think it is shot that teams got a rematch in a sport that doesn't have a playoff system. Is what it is

I will give you Gumps "A" for effort. Your offer got every coach on his staff a raise.

DNR. Newsflash: Spurrier isn't a great coach either. Winning 1 national championship in a time when the league wasn't half of what it is today is not impressive.

Saban's strength has never been X's and O's during the game.

He's an OK gameday coach, not great, not terrible.

However gameday coaching is only one of the many factors that go into being a successful coach at the collegiate level.

It's ok to get a B in gameday coaching if you get A's and A+'s in all the other categories.
