No, better to compare undefeated seasons, as that is a true indicator, too many variables in championships in college:

Saban: 1
Spurrier: 0
Gus: 0

Because Clowney was quoted saying that he would have committed to Alabama "a long time ago, if they ran a 4-3 defense", instead of a 3-4..

I think its fair to say that Saban is an excellent recruiter, excellent program manager, and a "good" X's and O's coach. That last part is where coaches like Gus and SOS have him beat so when the talent on the field is close enough, they have a legit chance to win.

I think Saban had a bad habit of sitting on leads pre-AU 2010. Since then, he's been pretty good at keeping his foot down. Where he struggles is in-game adjustments and getting the team to get better as the year goes on. I don't think we've really seen that under him like we have at other programs.

Saban is a great recruiter, has a great system for keeping folks on the same page and invested in what he wants to do, but is simply an above average gameday coach.

However, those very good attributes, combined with the superhuman persona perpetuated by the media, results in a career that'll be among the very elite.

I just can't understand why all of the sudden Steve has a bee in his bonnet and feels the need to take sling shite at Saban/Bama?

Or maybe Saban is considered the best coach in America and that's why he gets brought up a lot?

You guys take everything Spurrier says that's not "OMG HES THE BEST EVER" as some huge insult to Bama or Saban.

Saban and Bama are the best thing in college football a lot, so they will get referenced a lot. Take it as a compliment.
You are correct somewhat.

Spurrier also doesn't have to say a damn thing about Saban or his program.

Nick Saban is a very good football coach. i do think you can say he's a bit overrated by some as an X's and O's guy, but he's still pretty good and has gotten better over the years.

His best attribute in that regard is his willingness to change how he does things from year to year or even game to game. A lot of coaches are all in on "their" system. Saban isn't like that at all.

holy shite did he ever. We lost 4 or 5 games at LSU because we would get a lead and he would go into a shell offensively. Arkansas 2002 being the worst example.

That's not a knock on USCe.... But traditionally, there's no comparison... I will say that out of all the teams from the SEC East over the years, USCe is the one that has scared me the most and I'm glad we didn't play you during the Clowney years... frick that....

His point if is Spurrier was at Bama he would be raping left and right just like he did at Florida. Proof is in the pudding, spurrier raped way harder at florida then saban has at Bama

ETA: Just thinking of Spurrier at Bama gives me nightmares

I remember counting it out after the 2010 AU game. There were at least 2-3 games a year where Bama had a 21+ point lead with a quarter or two left and the game still came down to the wire. The infamous Blackout game was nothing but a UGA scoring fest in the second half. We haven't seen much of that since the 28-27.

6 SEC titles > 2. I dont like comparing national titles because if the SEC was viewed as it is today in the BCS era, spurriers floridas teams would have competed for way more national titles. Think about it, UF won 6 SEC titles while only being able to compete for 2 national titles. That sounds impossible today

i remember 2007 bama game not being concerned at all when bama had the lead and the ball late because i knew it would be run-run-safe pass-punt and sure enough thats exactly what happened. We got the ball back, scored and won the game.

Mid 90s were no joke. Yes, we sucked, but Bama and UT were still animals. MSU was actually good too
