Teague Spurrier on stipends: 'The money is there, and they bring it in.' I wish he'd shut up about this. It's a stupid idea that will just open pandora's box.

He's the most honest coach in the SEC. He'll say exactly what he sees.

It's a dumb idea. It would ruin college football as we know it.

The players don't bring in anything , the schools investing in stadiums 90 years ago at cost, the schools paying for schools to have football before TV money was big , THE MONEY INVESTED CREATED THE PRODUCT WE HAVE NOW....... Not the freaking players lmao

Right. In 4-5 years when every single player on your team is gone , BDS WILL STILL BE FULL. People go to watch Bama football.

The big question becomes. What about Divsion 1AA, 2 & 3 programs that are not profitable? Also, how much money is enough? The players will just want more and more.

How many of these schools could afford the $2,000,000 or more it would take to give every male and female athlete a $500 a month stipend? Maybe not even Spurrier's own school.

Don't most student athletes already get stipends?

Athletes get like 1200 a month already. Not including the value of their meals and gear. If all your meals are paid for and you live in a dorm 1200 a month is rich.

The808Bass on stipends: "No, it's not there, and 'they' don't bring it in."

Many schools (not in the SEC) run a deficit for their athletic programs anyway. The stipend would kill them by the time they got to paying the women's cross country team their $100/month or whatever we're supposed to be outraged about.

Spurrier is only talking about football and men's basketball players. Some people lack both reading and listening comprehension skills something awful or didn't click the link.

You gumps are really against this. Guess yall get some pride out of paying the players yourself

USCe has about 280 scholarship athletes. Pay them each an extra $500 a month and that's about $1.7M. Their athletic dept. only made a $2.6M profit last year.

Are you asserting that a college could offer a stipend to only male football and basketball players? Some people are indeed dumb.

That's kind of my point. The whole woe of the modern day student athlete is complete bull shite.

If the average cost of a 4 year degree is over $100 k when you factor everything in, these guys have to "cost" the schools far more than that when you factor in the facilities and staff the athletes have free access to.

Tack on their stipend and national exposure, and I really don't feel bad for these kids.

Gosh, you people are fricking stupid. We know what he said. We get it. What we're saying is that he's a fricking idiot if he thinks that the federal government would ever let them get away with paying only the football and basketball players.

Jesus effing christ. Go away and don't come back until you grow a few brain cells.

Thats what Spurrier is asserting should happen.

You're the one that either didn't listen to or didn't understand Spurrier's arguement.

Theres even a video. Thats some serious struggling in the noodle department if you can't watch the video and take away Spurrier's point

And I assert that we should hand out free Xboxes to everyone. He is free to assert whatever he wants. He isn't responsible for actually implementing it. Ask the USCe liaison for NCAA compliance if they agree with Coach Spurrier's assessment. Admittedly, it won't be nearly the exciting headline and no one really cares what USCe's compliance department thinks more than OBC, but they are the ones who would have to actually implement the decision. So I'd take their quote more seriously than Spurrier's.

Explain to me how USC can build a 36 million dollar baseball stadium and then build an 8 million dollar softball stadium to satisfy Title IX then?

If men and women's teams don't have to play in stadiums that cost the same then why do they have to have the same scholarships? Obviously Title IX doesn't require spending to be the exact same

We understand his argument. What we're saying is that if senile dementia has set to to such a degree that he thinks Title IX will ever be overturned, then maybe you people need to think about getting him off the sideline. What we're saying is that we get his argument...and some of us may even agree with him...but he's a damn fool for pontificating against a federal law that isn't going anywhere.
