I wish he'd shut up about this. It's a stupid idea that will just open pandora's box.

Did Stevo address the womenz compensation package? How 'bout the track/field, crosscountry, golf, tennis, baseball? Sure FB & BB generate the $$ in most programs, but the NCAA would never allow Title 9 to fall to the wayside, and every other men's sport will want a piece of the pie that other student-athletes are getting.

His support on the issue is self serving

Spurrier is the man, and he is right. Give these guys in revenue generating sports enough legal money to take their girl out once a week. It's not like they have the time to get real jobs with classes, practice, lifting, running, games, travel and fan expectations.
Yes, they already get schooling for free, and that's great, but a couple thousand a year would go a long ways with these athletes.

Most of them get paid monthly anyway, this wouldn't do anything but make things worse.

Stipends for the Football and basketball players are ok. Hes basically asking them to add money to their scholarships since they don't have the time to work a job at any point during the year.

The players don't bring in anything , the schools investing in stadiums 90 years ago at cost, the schools paying for schools to have football before TV money was big , THE MONEY INVESTED CREATED THE PRODUCT WE HAVE NOW....... Not the freaking players lmao

Yea, those empty stadiums would still bring in a ton of money

Most people's argument for players not getting paid is that they receive a free education and housing. I think this actually undervalues the total package that college athletes, especially at premier programs, receive.
They receive preferential treatment for campus housing placement and class scheduling. Free tutoring services in their own study hall and lounge.
They have nutrishionist and trainers that put together personalized plans for them to reach their full athletic potential. Also, they receive mentoring from some of the best minds in the game from their numerous coaches.
They have access to the best medical staff and rehabilitation facilities if they are injured.
The gyms they work out in are world class, and are supplied with free supplements. They also receive free team shoes and clothing.
They then play on prime time television to get noticed by fans and scouts alike, and their family gets free season tickets.
If players want to get paid for things like endorsements and signatures then the schools need to quantify the total dollar amount that each player costs the school. Let the player then pay back that amount if they choose to receive any money.

The NCAA has nothing to do with it. Title IX is federal law and is enforced by the U.S. Department of Education. Any discussion of stipends without including all male and female athletes and giving them the same amount is a complete waste of breath.

They wouldn't be empty because you have players that would love to get a scholarship to play football.
But you totaly missed the point , schools lost money for years on all things sports , and most only break even now.
We go to see players play who love the university , if you don't want an education take your azz own down the road.

And?
His argument is extremely flawed. But I guess at least he's standing up for what he believes in.
