It's obvious here that bama fans either did not know him or remember him from back then, but Spurrier was always talking tongue firmly in cheek. Do you honestly think that a coach as successful as he's been, at 3 different schools (check what he did at Duke) at the age of 70, is "jealous" of anyone in his profession? He's not acting silly to get attention. He's always had this type of humor, & apparently everyone but bama fans know this about him.

*I* do remember him from back then and that's why I hate the guy. He talked a lot of shite for someone coaching in a weak SEC and who had a hard time winning when it was all on the line.

You only hate him because he kept y'all from winning like 7 SEC titles in the 90s.

Don't you mean let's pretend the first quarter didn't happen? Saban himself said that even at 21-6 he didn't like the game because Alabama simply couldn't stop Ohio State.

I don't hate him, he's just all talk now. Sad to me because I really admire and respect his coaching back then.

I feel like Bama fans have talked themselves into the belief the game was as close as the score indicated. Similar to how OSU fans still believe they should have/could have beaten LSU in January 2008.
The night of the game/the day after, Bama fans realized OSU was simply better, and not by a really slim margin. I'm not sure Bama won any stat that night.

You won. You weren't better. It was close.

3rd string QB. Tell me who Bama's 3rd string QB is and then tell me how Bama would have had a shot with him behind center.

I mean obviously we ended the half down two points or so, but

Total yardage at half
Ohio State 348
Alabama 139
The 209-yard 1st-half differential is biggest for Alabama since Saban became head coach

No doubt Saban and Meyer are both great coaches, and any school would be extatic to have either of them.
That being said, if I could have either of them I would choose Meyer. Just think his system is more likely to be successful anywhere. Saban kind of has to have better players (though he is really good at getting them).
I haven't looked it up, but I am guesing Meyer had more success at Utah than Saban did at Mich St. Either one of them would win a ton at AL, FL, LSU or OH St.

I honestly think that Coach Spurrier was a great player and a good coach at Florida, but I just don't see all this hoop la declaring him a great coach because he did what no one has ever done at Duke and South Carolina. Part of being a great college football coach(in my opinion) is being able to recruit great players to your school. If he would just realize that if he worked a little harder he could recruit outside of the state of SC and they wouldn't have to settle for 10 wins. Last year he gave Coach Saban a hard time about working so hard, and maybe if he had worked a little harder their record might have been better. I don't believe that he is jealous of Coach Saban's record, but of the attention that Coach Saban gets. Any person that in college was a QB and then even kicked for the team, is a bit of an attention hog, and now the only way that he gets this attention is making cute remarks about other coaches and their schools. I just don't find that cute, funny, or impressive.

I sure wish he would've had Saban's work ethic back in the 90s. It took the Nebraska game to show him that maybe, just maybe, there's something to playing defense.
