The media knows that controversy sells.
Auburn is controversial because they are not Bama.
When the meida picks Auburn they know they will stir up Bama fans as well as fans outside to the SEC because it isn't the usual pick.

It's not like they're picking arky and lsu to be miserable...and we beat the shite out of those teams last year.

picks can go in trends and Auburn was very trendy

there's question marks across the board and preseason previews are hit or miss
