Did you miss the part where Gus used a backup cb as a qb and made it to the championship game?

Yeah, I tend to agree with that. Muschamp is a tad overrated, but he'll be better than Johnson was. Their defense will be better, while the offense won't be as good, so I see them being about the same as last year, maybe better if they get some of the good bounces they got in 2013.

I think the best thing Auburn did was get rid of the 4-2-5 scheme. That defense as a base is not really appropriate for a team like Auburn that gets primo line and linebacking talent. They basically ceded a huge advantage by picking a scheme that is meant to hide deficiencies rather than overwhelm with strength. It would have been like them running the triple option or something.

ETA: I had originally typed 3-3-5 by mistake. I corrected it.

If you like upvotes, just start an Auburn bash thread.

To answer your question, we're really fricking good. Deal with it

Nah

I'm not predicting us to win it all, but we'll be considerably better. Moderate defensive improvement will help a lot. Offense will be more versatile and imposing than last season.

Of course, this is the SECW, where we could be better on both sides and lose the same amount of games. I doubt that happens, however. We were leaderless and without hope toward the latter half of 2014. I think the intangibles help us win at least a couple more games. Bounces will help, but this is a solid team, luck won't be necessary to have a good season. Luck is always necessary to win titles, of course.

They will be good. They recruit well, have good coaches, have a schedule that bodes well for them, and are a perennial top team in the West.

Disclaimer- I still hope they lose every game and come down with a bad case of GonnoHerpeSyphillAids, but they know how to foosball.

The only reason I say the offense won't be as good is Johnson is not the running threat Marshall was. He's a capable runner, but he's not going to torch many defenses with scrambling or the read option like Marshall could. And I don't see the RB's being considerably better than last season's, so they'll get about the same production.

The wild card is if a WR can emerge to complement Williams and provide what Coates did last year. There's certainly plenty of talent there for that to happen.

My apologies. I typed the wrong thing; you are absolutely correct. The hybrid position in the secondary was weird. The zone stuff yall were doing was really bizarre at the end of the year. In the iron bowl, the bullshite schemes that were letting Kiffin isolate Cooper on the "spur" or "star" whatever he was calling it at Auburn and voiding the deep coverage were perplexing. It was time for it to go.

While it is a first year QB, he has played and started games and did well. Then you add in one of the brightest minds in offense in Malzahn and the inclusion of Muschamp for the D.

That combination is the reason Auburn is getting some love this year. We will see in about a week.

*add in the fact that bama and LSU have huge QB concerns.....it's a no brainer*

They could be very good, or go 6-6. Wouldn't surprise me either way.

So says the SECr. Coaches (experts, essentially) all over the country would disagree.

Here is the thing, can Muschamp get our defense say into the top 35-40? If so, we will be very hard to beat. That should not be that hard of a task to do.

Especially when you have zero pass rush. Having some D-ends that should be able to get to the QB should help as much if not more than changing DCs.
