Sounds to me like Saban just sent Smart on a recon mission to Auburn. Fake interview and the opportunity to bug a few offices.

Can't you just see Kirby placing little hidden microphones all over the place?

It is spin. There is always bullshite. But this is how it is . If Kirby came out and said all that, then maybe I would believe it. But this is hearsay. Its obvious every alabama fan will believe this anyway.

I dont give a shite about family . This is just football, nothing else. If similiar stories come out about your school, your fanbase reacts the same way. Quit being hypocrites.

I see so many AU fans here saying they would never grant this. Why? Because he is with a "hated" rival? Stop worrying about Alabama and do what is in the best interest of your program - long run. If you truly want culture change, you get the best guy you can get and give him full control to handle your program. Geez, it is for a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP - that is history, not some bowl game.

Maybe you guys should start petitioning Auburn go to the SEC East. Maybe then you'll start looking at what is good for your program rather than what Alabama does. Now, if he keeps certain coaches and plays by the set-up rules within the department, you will have yourself the same thing you have now, but without Cam Newton to win you games.

Damn you gumps are dumb.

I am glad you still live in fear of an near 80 year old man. Those 80's buttfrickings he put on bama still resonate I suppose.

95% of the bams in this thread thought the dial hit was legal.

This doesn't make sense. His name really skyrocketed as a front runner after his interview, which would indicate that he nailed the interview.

According to Scarbo Kirby Smart (and I am sure most other coaches wanted the same thing) wanted 3 things. 1. To know about the NCAA investigation 2. To coach the bowl game 3. To have control over the program and to be able to hire his own assistant coaches and staff. It is obvious Auburn did not have a problem with coaching the bowl game because Gus is coaching his bowl game. Auburn shared the info on the NCAA investigation because Gus answered questions about it during the press conference, and said it was nothing. So the hangup was giving the coach control over the program. JJ and crew do not hire the best coach they can find. They hire the best coach they can control. Until JJ is gone and we have a AD who allows the coach to run the program we are only going to get the type of coaches willing to be controlled. At this point the NCAA would be easier to deal with than the AD who sees himself as the General Manager over football operations.

I agree with most of this, but I don't think Auburn would want him coaching the bowl game either.

FYI, I believe this. And I believe on Monday night, Smart was the choice.

1 & 2 are reasonable and not a problem.

3 is laughable. The dead period starts in 11 days. The new AU coach needs to be doing EVERYTHING possible immediately to put his staff together and ensure the current top 10 class stays together and try to add to it. Continuing to coach your old team is a laughable deal breaker. The fact it is a rival is not relevant.

Everyone says if it was Saban he would not let him coach in the BCSNC. Just last year he helped coach Mc, set him up an office just for his Colorado St. business he needed to conduct each day. If you really want someone you should not feel bad that they want to finish a job that they started.

I still think that Kirby's headset is not even turned on during the games. Poor guy hasn't realized it yet.

so you're saying that after a coach takes his team to the NC game he shouldn't be allowed to coach in that game? What a DA.

Has that even been confirmed? As of his press conference last night, he said he still had to talk to Arkansas State administration about that and didn't know yet.
