OP's rankings are god awful.

Mizzou 2nd and Tennessee 5th? Both schools have been to the NCAA 4 out of the last 5 years and we average almost 10K more per night.

S. Carolina also way too low.

UF fans are really shitty fans. Floridians in general are shitty fans. the further you get from the panhandle the worse it gets.

You claiming that LSU cares more about basketball than UF honestly invalidates anything you'll say in the future about UF.

This thread has gone better than I thought. Really diverse opinions. Cant seem to get a consensus on schools like Bama, MSU, Florida, UT, LSU, and Aub.

Is it fair to say that, while its nowhere near the realm of Football the conference cares about Basketball more than it lets on?

I would say so. I think that most people just pretend that they don't care because on average the SEC isn't as strong in basketball as it is in football and baseball. I think if the SEC were to become a dominant basketball conference, the amount of "care" that the fanbases had would skyrocket

They do. If you put the programs having the same season at the same time, I guarantee you LSU will have more support. You are using an example of a completely shitty program vs a top 15 program and trying to say it proves UF fans are better which is retarded.

Florida fans are pretty bad in basketball. Tons of empty seats in a 12K seat arena when you are a top 15 program is pathetic imo.

11. Mississippi State: 7,718
12. Georgia: 7,337
13. Ole Miss: 6,466
14. Auburn: 5,992
All of these have something in common unlike the others. They all are located in a college town that thrives only because a university is located in that town. The rest of them could thrive even without a school located there.

For Auburn, it's hard to get alumni and older generation fans to travel to AU on weeknights from Birmingham, ATL, etc. just to watch a bball game that will last about an hour and a half.

I agree with the posters early in the thread that said it's pretty pointless to even try and rank the amount of "care" each fan base has for its program. Outside of UK, Mizzou, and maybe Arky/Tenn it is all about their teams record and who they are playing.

Basketball...
When your team is good, basketball is lots of fun.

When your team sucks, it's unwatchable.

Football...
When your team is good it's the greatest thing in the world.

When your team sucks, you still watch, it's like a train wreck.

That's the difference.

In all fairness our program is too, which is why we are only 7th or 8th on that list. Columbia, Missouri is smaller than Athens, Georgia and it's a 4 hour round trip for a 2 hour game from STL or KC.

No. They don't.

We've had trouble getting support that'll match our success, but most LSU fans are completely apathetic towards basketball. It's a distant #3 behind football and baseball, as opposed to Florida, where basketball is definitely #2.

Probably should've dropped Missouri down as well, then, if you're going to use attendance as such an important metric.

We should be at the bottom. No one here gives a flying shite about basketball.

What is a better way of judging fan interest than how many go to the games?

As TheRig stated earlier, location of the university plays a role in attendance numbers. If the bulk of the state's population is 2 hours away from the game on a week night, they probably aren't going to make the trip down for a game, especially a non con vs a cupcake
